comment ImageMagick is truncating (squaring) my icons on resize
I'm sorry, I didn't see the SUPER in SUPERUSER. I'm just an ordinary guy who knows nothing about images and describes things as they appear to be. No need to be a douchebag.

Weird. They seemed cut off in my system, but maybe I'm confusing "cut off" with "scaled to low res"

It's doing kind of a combination of both. It makes it 16x16 but several pixels are cut off around the image.

I've scanned and search the docs and it seems to support ico. If I wanted to use a different program I would have specified that in my question.

comment Taking my e6410 dell from 32 to 64 bit
I was told Word did better with more RAM, and I'm limited to 4gb with 32-bit Windows. Though I'm not super convinced an SSD wouldn't pep things up.

Let's talk about the other ways, short of adding an SSD, which I can't afford for now...

Exactly. I have VS 2008 and SQL 2005 installed, and I am usually good about disabling the SQL services on the localhost since I develop remotely a lot. Just disabled VSS writer today. Stuff like that moreso than Windows services.

comment hardware acceleration for developer non/media type apps?
No - disabling the hardware acceleration feature on the card, as some of my business apps - according to online sources - work better without the accelereation.
