comment Downloadable templates and styles for Word 2010?
They're places to get templates, which is what the OP asked for.

comment ImageMagick is truncating (squaring) my icons on resize
I'm sorry, I didn't see the SUPER in SUPERUSER. I'm just an ordinary guy who knows nothing about images and describes things as they appear to be. No need to be a douchebag.

comment ImageMagick is truncating (squaring) my icons on resize
Weird. They seemed cut off in my system, but maybe I'm confusing "cut off" with "scaled to low res"

comment ImageMagick is truncating (squaring) my icons on resize
It's doing kind of a combination of both. It makes it 16x16 but several pixels are cut off around the image.

I've scanned and search the docs and it seems to support ico. If I wanted to use a different program I would have specified that in my question.

comment Taking my e6410 dell from 32 to 64 bit
I was told Word did better with more RAM, and I'm limited to 4gb with 32-bit Windows. Though I'm not super convinced an SSD wouldn't pep things up.

Let's talk about the other ways, short of adding an SSD, which I can't afford for now...

comment “lean” Windows 7 developer machine services to disable
Exactly. I have VS 2008 and SQL 2005 installed, and I am usually good about disabling the SQL services on the localhost since I develop remotely a lot. Just disabled VSS writer today. Stuff like that moreso than Windows services.

comment hardware acceleration for developer non/media type apps?
No - disabling the hardware acceleration feature on the card, as some of my business apps - according to online sources - work better without the accelereation.

comment Weak wifi on DSL wifi router; might run cable. Maximum cable length?
WDS? I'm not familiar. My buddy has an extra NetGear N router lying around. Wonder if we could use that as a repeater? Or is the correct term "extender"?

comment What happens if I hook my Latitude e6410 1400x900 to an LCD at 1400x1080
I should have read my video card manual ;) Resolution is device dependent if the card supports the res.

Tried it. Sadly that's not the message the silly pointing stick scroller sends.

comment How good is Opera for developers?
Well, having worked in such an environment, I know that IE6 is chosen because of its particular features, such as HTML over HTTP, which predates Ajax that works in many other browsers. That, and ActiveX technology, make IE6 suitable for particular applications that an Opera might not be. Also, if a company had standardized on Firefox, for example, it would have no problem moving forward as there are few Fox-specific things going on. Therefore, your assertion that dictating a browser is always bad is false.

No, read the question: "Can I disable only the left/right scrolling?" See the word "ONLY"
