comment Change R BLAS library path
You probably need to add libacml_mv.so to your LD_PRELOAD as well, e.g. LD_PRELOAD="/other/blas/lib/libacml_mv.so /other/blas/lib/libacml_mp.so" R.

comment How fix linux space issue?
Since this is a programming questions site, what's your programming question? How to overcome your fear of deleting files? Two solutions that come to mind are an external hard drive, or a psychiatrist.

comment Single-instance background process with reloading
I'll refer you to the man pages, since I don't have a system with start-stop-daemon in front of me. You'll need to pass a few arguments like --start --name foo --pidfile /tmp/foo.pid. There's no explicit "restart" feature, so for that you'll need to just do --stop --oknodo followed by --start.

You can push files to git via ssh. Are you able to ssh to the system instead of FTP?

comment Install linux/bsd on compact flash using USB connector
There are other StackExchange sites about Linux or computer software where this question may fit, but it does not fit on StackOverflow, because it isn't about programming.

comment Is the Linux (Fedora/Gnome) desktop limited in total resolution?
The problem doesn't even seem to be exactly the number of monitors, but their total resolution. Note that many workstations you see with 5-8 monitors still have similar or smaller total pixel resolution compared to mine. Maybe it is somehow a Gnome thing, but I really think it's something broken in Xorg and/or the drivers for ATI. Anyway, no, I did not try messing around with xrandr. I wouldn't know where to start.
