comment HTTPS not working for a specific site in Internet Explorer
@problemguy, you're not giving us much information to go by. Like: what result did that website that paradroid linked to give you? Which website are you having trouble with?

Sorry for the confusion... The question mentions some IE on XP, your answer mentions IE6. So, I wondered why you think the question asker is specifically using IE6. :-)

Nice. One aside: have you inferred that the OP is using IE6 from the Windows XP version?

comment Index a low-cost NAS on Windows 7
As this uses its own GUI (just like some of the other answers), this doesn't cover "so that the files can be available in Windows Search and Libraries". Still then, seems to be a nice alternative, surely for future visitors who find this question by its title. Also, reading the website, it seems one can copy the program to the disk that has been indexed, and use it on any computer that uses the external disk?

comment Keepass masterkey isn't recognized after a reinstall
Any chance you have a different keyboard layout (or some "international" behaviour with dead keys) and hence are actually typing something different? And what does "reloading the database" mean to you? (I guess it does not imply resetting the password, as like you're already read here there is no way to retrieve a lost password.)

Are you affiliated with this software? The last paragraph sounds like marketing speak to me, and I see you're recommending the same thing on 2 old posts.

Curious... You've been having this problem for almost a year now?

comment Can't download .exe, stuck at 99% for all browsers
Probably not related, but note that some executables might have been digitally signed. I cannot check if that's true for Firefox and the other examples you listed, but the only reference in a comment I can find here on Super User, is about downloads failing for digitally signed executables, not for others. (So if signatures would be related in your case, I'd assume that your problem would be limited to some specific executables too. Still then: your OS is old, and maybe so are the root certs?)

@Pacerier, "Anti-virus would be the first thing anyone would check", well, some comments prove otherwise.

@David, though it seems the reviewers think otherwise: I'm not sure how useful it is to suggest such minor edits to 4 year old posts, and then have at least 2 people review each suggested edit and have those posts bumped to the home page.

comment What is the difference between a kibibyte, a kilobit, and a kilobyte?
I don't believe that "They were never meant to be exact numbers, they were binary approximations of base 10 numbers" is true; I think it's just a result of the hardware that was (is) limited to storing ones and zeroes, and hardware addressing using binary registers. Both being base 2; not related to approximating base 10 calculations at all, I feel. Also, I fail to see the point you're making about calculations. It's not like computer output would show 1024 where it actually intended to show 1000, or show 1000 when internally it would be 1024. What calculations are you referring to?

The title is generic enough for me, @Doktoro. (Even more, with that many details in the question, I'd almost vote to close as being "too localized" but that's non-existing nowadays...)

While the OP has indeed indicated they do not have any anti virus installed (weird...), I still feel this answer might help others that have the same issue, @Doktoro. (And that's what Stack Exchange is about, right? A library of generic questions and answers?)

(As an aside: you might want to link to that post, as at first I figured seeing a single ~ would not indicate an escape sequence.)

See also Gilles' answer in Why Putty inserting ~ into my Fedora bash shell, which nicely explains why one might only see the ~ (and hear a beeb) when actually something like \e[3~ is sent.
