What to say, what to say... I'm currently attempting to either work out which of two senses of self I have is a delusion of the other, or to reconcile them. It's not easy.

Have a look at =indirect - at a guess, it might be possible to get what th'art asking for by using it to refer to a cell whose reference is determined using an arbitrary formula.

comment What shredding utility can I use?
@ssice Nono, not at all. I thought there had been a downvote, and it looked like I had done it, and I wanted to clarify that I didn't. If an apology is needed, it should be from me.

@ssice Which is, in fact, why I didn't.

It's got no advantage over shred, though (both will deplete the entropy pool to some extent, this being the downside of random writes), and it's rather a lot more to type.

comment effect of deleting a shared Dropbox file
@Paul right, yes, I do apologise; I got distracted and commented on the question when I meant to comment on Xavierjazz's answer.

@Paul or, indeed, to one of Annjay's own Dropbox folders rather than one shared with them.

Looks like a Server Fault question to me (though I've provided an answer anyway)

comment Accessing Process Messages after Dropped SSH Connection
Look at tmux instead of screen, especially if a raspi is involved; it does the same things but is much lighter and has a few advantages. Alternatively, for a single process, look at dtach, which is even lighter.

comment what's a good way to repartition using windows tools?
There are two (major, PC) types of partition table. MBR, which has been around for a long time and can only deal with disks of 2TB or less, and GPT, which is much newer but can handle much, much larger disks (and doesn't need any of that "extended partition" silliness to have more than four partitions).

Not what thou hast asked for, but would do the job: thou couldst use gdisk to create the GPT, including the partition (it will prompt with defaults of the earliest and last viable points for the new partition), and then mke2fs -t ext4 /dev/sdx1 (for relevant x, and assuming thou only wantest the one partition) to create the filesystem. Does have the minor advantage that it'll create an ext4 filesystem rather than an ext2 one, which thou sayest is preferable.
