I'm a web developer and programmer from the UK. I'll fill this out more when I can be bothered; really I'm just trying to get the autobiography badge.

Why is is harder to type parentheses () than square brackets [] on a standard keyboard? Thanks for the answer! Somehow I forgot typewriters originally used the keyboard we have now. |

Why is is harder to type parentheses () than square brackets [] on a standard keyboard? @Zoredache it doesn't bug me, I was just interested from an "interface" perspective why it was the case. Inexplicably everyone else decided this factual question was "likely to solicit opinion, debate, arguments, polling, or extended discussion". |

Why does everything in computing work with a base number of 2 to the power of x? It's a shame we didn't just use the 4 fingers on each hand and use powers of 8. |

What are the benefits of using Linux OS to develop a PHP based website? There's also the line endings issue, although I believe most FTP software does automatic conversions. |

Can I force Google Chrome to remember passwords? @amph At the time of writing, doing this did work. Removing autocomplete brings up the prompt to save the password, and when you return it filled it in, even if autocomplete was off. Maybe that doesn't happen any more. |

How do you edit CSS in IE Developer Tools? The problem is: if I can't add a new CSS rule, how do I change a rule from say background-color: transparent to display: block without it being invalid along the way? As soon as I type display then IE thinks the rule - display: transparent - is invalid. |

F6 vs Alt-D vs Ctrl-L (getting to the google chrome omnibar) I believe that F6 originally comes from Windows Explorer, while Ctrl+L has its origins in Unix/Linux. So it's perhaps a platform issue. |

Stop PDFs from displaying inside Google Chrome As I mentioned in my answer I don't have Adobe Reader installed any more but this looks like the best solution for those that do. |

Why do my files have a gray X on them? I turned on the options to show hidden files and protected OS files but there is no .svn folder in there. EDIT: I also have Dropbox installed and I may have copied the files from my Dropbox folder... |

Why do my files have a gray X on them? @Steve314: Yes, I do have TortoiseSVN installed. While I investigate, maybe you should post that as an answer ;) |
