comment More than one ADSL WiFi Router with Modem on LAN
But that will only use the connection from the one with DHCP enabled. The clients won't route via the other ones.

comment How do I get the computer name from an IP Address in Unix
It would appear you type faster than me - exactly what I was going to say :)

comment How to set up a centralized backup server with lots of offsite workstations, intermittent internet connectivity, and stubborn users?
It sounds to me like you are in the unfortunate position of having to try to achieve this task with both hands tied behind your back.

comment What software can I use to co-ordinate a projector screen?
Given your using windows 7 try pressing 'Win' +P which if the drivers are set up correctly will give you the output options. Tap 'p' until 'extend' is selected, this will put you into dual head mode, in which the output screen shows something different to the internal one

comment VNC from Windows XP to Ubuntu host using SSH
Yup, exactly like that :), I'm guessing it still isn't working. You do have the VNC server setup on the remote machine and X running there?

comment VNC from Windows XP to Ubuntu host using SSH
Nope, I don't have anything to do with X11 forwarding enabled. I leave everything on the defaults apart from the single port forward. Whilst it is possible to run an X server on windows I have found VNC to be a better solution for remote access.

I use 'Local' instead of dynamic, 5900 as source port, and target-host:5900 as destination.

comment Can I upgrade an ADSL router firmware to DD-WRT or Tomato?
Agreed, also whenever I've looked in the past I've not actually found any ADSL routers that dd-wrt supports, as it doesn't have the adsl drivers in it, it's designed to work with cable routers

Can you not change the permissions on the remote folder so that your user has write access to it?

comment See available wireless access points in the terminal?
In that case you'll have to install the wireless-tools package, which I think requires the command sudo yast2 --install wireless-tools . However, it's been a few years since I last used opensuse so I may have got the syntax wrong.

comment What NAS setup for two-way syncing over the internet?
The spliting the HDD into different sections is what I do, although it's all on the same partition. /home/phil from NAS 1 gets copied to /home/backup/phil on NAS2, and then /home/dad from NAS2 gets copied to /home/backup/dad on NAS1. The stuff in /home/backup limited to read only via the samba share. Then a cronjob runs each night to sync changes, which can be setup to email if it fails.

comment Win XP cannot connect (or see) my wifi network, but can see others
I helped a friend who had a basically identical problem earlier today except with vista. It had worked fine yesterday, but this morning had exactly the same problem. The friend had also tried connecting via a wired network but that failed because the laptop was set to use a static IP, I changed that to DHCP to fix the wired connection. Then I rechecked the wifi link and discovered that it was working. Sorry not to be more help.

comment Audio cable “joiner”?
Quite a few digital pianos have line ins on them so plugging the mp3 player into that might be a solution if your particular piano has it.

comment Windows XP SP3 does not recognize my RAID SET?
When I had SATA RAID drivers to install this was the approach I used and it worked fine, I'm afraid I don't know enough about the way nlite works to be able to offer any help on why it might fail.
