I like to write code and solve problems. I'm not an expert yet, but I hope to be one, one day.

comment How can I run an iOS or Android app on my PC?
@The Dag Grow up. It means "Apple Branded Hardware" which is what's in the license for OS X. This is not a flame war. And this is 2.5 years old.

comment Windows 8 VHD on Mac
@Matt The user was trying to create VHD for windows to be booted virtually (something like Parallels) directly inside of a host operating system. That host operating system cannot be Mac OS X because of the UEFI problem. The host operating system MUST be windows, but you can do it on Mac hardware, if you're booting directly into an existing windows installation (like bootcamp, not virtual like parallels), then creating the VHD inside of the existing windows installation.

@Matt Read the question for the context. Can't create a VHD inside of Mac OS X.

comment What could be causing windows to fail to sleep or hibernate, and revert system settings?
I don't have any virtual or networked devices attached or connected, so this isn't applicable to me.

comment How to get a start button in Windows 8?
@Ramhound Unfortunately that rarely happens. Technologies get updated, and people post new questions.

@Ramhound post that as an answer so it can be accepted and this question marked as answered.

comment What could be causing windows to fail to sleep or hibernate, and revert system settings?
@Sickest That does not help. I've seen that page and done quite a bit of troubleshooting and research before posting here. That problem does not describe my problem, either. Mine doesn't turn right back on when touched, it completely shuts down.

Good work. Questions and answers like this are what SuperUser is all about.

Credit where it's due. I wasn't willing to try this. VBA is so ugly.

comment All invalid hostnames resolve to localhost in my browser. What is going on?
I like Joshua's suggestion of ensuring it's YOUR localhost. Just edit C:\inetpub\wwwroot\iisstart.htm, if you don't want to disable your local IIS.

comment Why are these characters shown in PowerPoint designer, but not in presentation?
Nope. This is on the same system, and both Segoe UI and Segoe UI symbol are installed on the system.

comment Why are these characters shown in PowerPoint designer, but not in presentation?
@Psycogeek unfortunately the characters in the font were a specific talking point (albeit a very topical one) - that the default font in Windows Store Apps (Segoe) supports emojis. Powerpoint is 2010, so I suppose it might not have the latest version of the Segoe font.

comment Can not type à , ê , è anymore
This functionality is not built into windows 7, but some applications support it, like Word. I've never seen this in Notepad++, and wouldn't expect it, because I'd expect the ^ character to appear, not wait for another character to accent.

comment Can you force an offline mode? It takes forever to load a page from disk
It seems unlikely that it's taking a long time to realize that it's offline. If chrome doesn't have an internet connection, it doesn't just spin it's wheels, but you can probably see what's happening with Fiddler, the Chrome Developer Console, or the Chrome Profiler.

comment Using Windows 8 with Bootcamp?
First of all - this doesn't relate to the asker's question at all (SuperUser is not a forum, please limit answers to actual answers). Second, This is not entirely true. The multi-touch drivers for the trackpad are the only driver that has been widely seen as "not working." I installed windows 8 on my Macbook Pro with the Windows 7 drivers. Video, wifi, audio, screen and keyboard backlight brightness all work fine. Only trackpad gave issues, and there's a workaround to fix it, albeit without multi-touch.

comment What is the command line program to seed an already downloaded torrent?
This works because the bittorrent client does a hash check of the downloaded data, recognizes that the download is complete, and automatically starts uploading, correct?
