comment Excel formula to convert hours into days
BTW Just in case somebody might need it - if your field contains a number > 24, HOUR() will return 0. The workaround to this is using TEXT(B7, "[h]") instead of HOUR.

comment Can a single OS installation on an SSD be shared between a desktop and a laptop?
Slackware and Debian work fine as well. There might be some problems with OpenSUSE. .. But yeah - usually Linux distros work fine even when you change the hardware.

comment Windows 8.1 decides to randomly change locale in programs
Hmm.. It appears Windows has decided to automatically install the Bulgarian display language pack. Probably when I did full windows update after doing the fresh install. I'll give it a day to see if the problem still exists. If not, I'll ask you to post this as an answer. :)

I'm actually using Slackware as my desktop & dev os but need windows mainly for testing and audio editing... Though I'm seriously thinking of switching to Mac.

Holly crap... I spent more than 2 hours trying to find this. Man doesn't Windows get worse with every release or what!

comment Really strange windows 7 behavior (usb devices not working)
Thank you for your suggestion! Unfortunately it did not work. I tried reinstalling the usb controllers again. Whatever I do, the usb flash devices do not get recognized. After I ran USB Oblivion, though, my other devices started working (a usb printer and a phone connected via usb)

comment Really strange windows 7 behavior (usb devices not working)
I know I can reinstall, but I would like to fix the problem without reinstalling - I have a lot of developer software installed and it would take me 2 days to reconfigure everything again. But if nothing else helps I guess that's the only step I could take.

No, no long names or paths. The copy/paste is with Explorer, also tried via Cygwin but had the absolute same result.

comment Autochk cannot run due to an error caused by a recently installed software package
I actually found a solution to this without reinstalling - get a "Windows 7 Recovery Disk", boot from it, in the options you can choose "Start Command Prompt". In the Command Prompt type chkntfs C: /X and then chkdsk C: /F. With chkntfs you exclude your drive from being checked on boot and with chkdsk you force your drive to be checked now. It fixed my problem so far. If this helps anybody else, upvote and I'll post it as an answer.

Did you ever manage to solve this problem? I'm currently in the same situation.

comment DVD/CD-ROM drives stop working in Windows 7
You should add to "Other things to try": reinstalling the cd/dvd rom driver. That fixed my problem. I did it after steps 1,2,3,4,5 and removing StarForce, Securom.
