comment Find and delete uncopyable files
It finally completed the entirety of the drive last night between 8pm and 1030pm, so it took 36 hours. No directories escaped unscathed but I managed to get 270gb off it, which is less than 1gb per hour.

Just got back in. In 7 1/2 hours it has processed 21 files and 50% of them are bad.

Hits the same issue as doing it through explorer but at least I can see which files are failing and have a log of it. The error given for the first failing file it has spent in excess of 20 minutes on apparently is CRC.

No, I haven't but the fact that a) it sounds sick and b) trying to copy files off is revealing damaged files means it needs to be replaced and the good files copied off.

But the recovery image wouldn't securely erase my friends business data would it? I have a Vista disc but from my experience it wants to create a new user for it. Can I turn off the machine at that point? When installing an OS I usually create the user a log right on in...

I agree. A decent way would be at the end of the bounty time a grace period of 3 days to allocate the bounty. Then that would allow me (who wasn't online last night due to the hotel internet connection disappearing) to allocate the bounty.

Just checked the FAQ and it is perfectly clear. Once again my apologies. Can moderators change this?

Well I thought that you accepted the best answer after the completion date and that would assign it. Doesn't seem much point in accepting early in the bounty phase in case a better answer came along later that was more complete. Sorry about that.

Still need to get the firewalls turned back on. A job for tonight.

Okay, I can ping each other and I can ping google.co.uk (.com failed to find but that is due to geolocation redirection I think). I can also ping the name of the machines.

So change my network from 192.168.200.x to 192.168.137.x? Will do.

So why did the host want to reconfigure the network from the number I had set it to to something different? It is not the same as the hotel network as that is 192.168.254.x.

Once I had disabled the firewall, which I am not too happy about.

Seemed good right up til step 4. Soon as I did that the Host wanted to change the static ip from 192.168.200.100 to 192.168.137.1. I've allowed it for now - need to reconfigure the VM to use 192.168.137.x now. Will do that later when I get back from work.

Before you ask "What errors did I get" - by not working I mean I can't ping the other VM.

Still not got it working. I assigned the 1st VM 192.168.200.1 and the second VM 192.168.200.2. That didn't work so I also assigned the host to 192.168.200.100. That didn't work. I also disabled ipv6 in case that confused the issue. Still no joy. Imagine, for an instant, I am really really dumb. Explain in simple steps how this should work and how to go about it.

I believe so. According to the help dialog it is 6.0.192.0

Okay, now what? The both VMs are on Loop Back Adaptor but there is no network between the machines. Do I need to set a static IP address for them?

This seems the most logical suggestion, I will try this first.
