C# developer in Cincinnati, OH.

I try to specialize in WPF, and have a passion for good object oriented design. I also have done a moderate amount of web development on the side.

@chris: I think you're right that in practice, they don't care since I'm purchasing a copy and encouraging C# development. However, every Microsoft rep I've spoken to says you must have a paid Microsoft developer tool now to qualify for an upgrade. See the answer I've provided. They can't check for an installed product anyways if they're allowing upgrades from Visual Studio 6.

@Blackbeagle: If you could find the article stating this, it'd be great. Look at my answer below, all the Microsoft reps I've spoken to appear to disagree.

comment When did my Mac's HD last sleep?
My macbook does the same thing. I'm going to assume you're running OS X 10.6, since the battery-drain while sleeping seemed to get much worse for me after upgrading.

comment Energy Efficiency: OLED
@Matthew: There are plenty of "light" on dark themes that work, with the black site theme of Ars Technica being a prime example of a website that is much easier for me to read than a white equivalent. Android tends to favor white on black as well for the sake of it's display life.

comment What's a good desktop project/to-do manager?
EssentialPIM is the desktop to-do app that I see most people refer to. In my case, the fact that it looks identical to Outlook is a complete turn-off, but I'm far too picky about looks.

comment Really slow Xbox 360 as Windows Media Extender
I'm guessing you're both referring to the Media Center portion of the 360, as this is terribly slow for me as well. Meanwhile, with both my Xbox 360 and PC on wireless, streaming videos and music through the normal dashboard by sharing through Windows Media Player works perfect.

Up-to-date drivers won't help failing hardware, no matter how much you try.

comment Legality of using a burned CD with a legal CD-Key?
I installed a retail XP Pro installation on my former Dell laptop that also had an OEM XP Pro. The key does not work, it only worked with the Dell-supplied OEM disc.

comment How to make torrent downloads faster?
Set your upload to no more than 90% of your connection's upload limit. Many routers will choke as uTorrent or other torrent applications max out your upload speed, which in turn kills your download and the connections of anyone else on your network.

It's the website. Likely on one can go there. Can you tell us the website and we could just test it?

Not necessarily. It'd be the webpage doing the redirect most likely, so a ping to the website server could actually ping the website and not your router.

comment 802.11n Audio Interference
I'd personally think it was electrical interference with the card before I'd blame the wireless standard itself. As far as I know, 802.11n uses the same 2.4mhz frequency as 802.11g

comment Where is Blu-Ray on Linux
I think he's looking for a software solution integrated with something similar to Boxee or XBMC. That guide alone makes it sound like it can be challenging to play many discs.
