comment Can you install Windows 7 on Microsoft Virtual PC 2007, VirtualBox on a mac, or on Windows 7's Virtual PC?
@Molly: I know people running Windows 98 still. There have been more surprising things than 8 years of Win7.

comment Are there good graphics card comparison chart for the current models?
Beware the advertisement-speak. Look to benchmarks to see actual results. Being told "up to 12% gains" means that in one case, they got 12% gains. Perhaps the rest of the time, it was 50% slower.

If you have a model for your computer (i.e. Dell Inspiron ####, etc), this could help people direct you for the driver side of your question.

comment What's the difference between 32 & 64 bit Windows for hardware
@fk: You can consider it future-proofing your system. The next version of Windows may only be 64-bit and not offer 32-bit, and with hardware vendors pushing only the 64-bit version on their new PCs, drivers and software support may eventually start to favor 64-bit.

Note that every modern computer might not necessarily be able to run 64-bit. For instance, Netbooks have the Intel Atom processor, many (if not all?) of which are 32-bit processors.

It could also be I/O limits on either device, where they're having issues reading/writing above 10mbps for whatever reason. Also, just to clarify, you're aware that 54mbps = about 6.75MB/s, right?

Added your step in there ;) That's a good idea, to prevent the temptation of wiping the wrong drive.

For some reason, I see this as overkill for a small desktop. I'm less concerned about stopping all radiation, and more concerned about just reducing it to lessen my issues.

comment Which Linux is the most efficient?
That computer is not that old, compared to what the slimmest distros are built for. For example, Puppy Linux only needs 128MB RAM, with older versions using 64MB. Even Windows XP only needs 64MB RAM and 233mhz CPU. You could run just about anything on there.
