Because of how tightly integrated Gnome is, you probably aren't gaining anything by removing burners and such anyways. I would honestly just ignore it.

comment Linux Distro for Beginners
I cannot recommend Gentoo enough as a distro for learning about the underlying components that compose a full system and how each works with the others. It does take more time to learn, but it's worth it in the end if your goal is to understand Linux better. It also makes for great servers and minimalist desktops.

D: and free space in the Extended, yes. The main benefit to LVM rather than direct extended partitions (which would also work just fine) is that you have the free space available to allocate to other things (separate LV's for virtual machines, or a separate storage LV for video files that you can grow as needed, etc). Typically, it's much much easier to grow your available storage space as needed than to reduce when you discover you really need that free space on the root partition for something else.
