comment Open Windows Explorer when searching for file in Start Menu
SHIFT + F10, Down, ENTER is one option, but not ideal.

comment Truncated input when piping to another command in Bash in Mac OS X
I tried the 2>&1 | less redirection, and it's still truncated there.

comment Truncated input when piping to another command in Bash in Mac OS X
@glennjackman: Yes, it is truncated that way as well. It seems to only be a problem with piping, because it emits full output when I don't pipe at all. The full output is emitted to stdout. I also tried using zsh, so it doesn't seem to be a problem with Bash itself.

comment Powershell won't start, fails with 'Value cannot be null. Parameter name input'
Glad to hear you're working now, thanks! By the way, Visual Studio should not create a PowerShell profile script, that I'm aware of ... I have no idea what the root cause of your situation was, but that seems unlikely. I thought maybe you had created a custom profile script.

comment IDN-aware Windows command line WHOIS utility
Can you explain exactly what the "transformation" (to xn--ndlslngtan-p5af5u.se) you did is? I don't understand enough about internationalization to know off the top of my head.

There's no Product.ini in the Sources folder on the Windows 8.1 Professional media. Any thoughts?

comment Google Chrome applying color profile to Facebook images?
Thanks for the test pages. I just tried them out, and both IE10 and Chrome 23 are most definitely color managed. One important thing to note: Google Chrome does NOT support ICC version 4 color profiles, however Internet Explorer 10 does. I believe that is link #3 in your comment. So, there is definitely something different about the two browsers ...

comment Multicolored Batch File
PowerShell commands can be executed in a script, and vice versa. The script contents should be saved to a .ps1 file. There is lots of documentation about how to execute scripts. technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee176949.aspx

comment Turning display off makes CPU burn up and fan gets really loud on sony laptop with windows 8
Those "driver installers" are very sketchy. I would recommend doing a fresh install without using Driver Genius, or any similar programs.

comment Disable “automatic maintenance” in Windows 8
I would recommend not shutting it off completely. It's there for a reason.

comment Being as productive in Windows as in Linux
I agree -- there isn't much point in adding application install paths to the PATH environment variable. Also, on a side note, I think PowerShell is a hell of a lot more powerful than Bash. Would you rather spend your time parsing text, and piping text to other commands, or would you rather use rich objects? :)

You asked if it was sufficient to do what he needed. It isn't.

comment Why don't consumer laptops have trusted platform modules (TPMs)?
But the average consumer doesn't even know to purchase a "professional" laptop. Unless these companies market technologies like TPMs to the masses, they will never even know about them.

comment Why don't consumer laptops have trusted platform modules (TPMs)?
I understand the concept you're portraying, but consumers walking into Best Buy aren't going to get a "business class" laptop anyway. I doubt that a single laptop in Best Buy has the option for a TPM, much less actually having one.

Yup, you got it - the path still says v1.0. Ignore that :)

I think you are confused. Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 includes Windows PowerShell 2.0 out of the box.

comment Intel Core i5-2467m - Turbo Boost not activating?
Good answer, but I think it just needed a reboot. I saw another question on SuperUser that indicated there might be a problem with Turbo Boost after resuming from a low power state (which I had done previously). I am wondering if there's a bug with the Samsung Series 5 also.
