comment How to get Ubuntu 11.04 GUI to appear
So the ubuntu system is up and running - I can access shares on it from my LAN - but it's simply the GUI that doesn't function. I also am unable to ssh to the box from within the LAN. Is there any log I should be looking at to diagnose the problem(s)?

OK, tried a few more key combos, found a login prompt with one of them. Logged in, then did a sudo service gdm restart, which appeared to work, giving me a process id. How do I now access the gui (scuse noobness, been a while since I descended to this depth in Linux)

Ctrl-Alt-F7 didn't do anything, Ctrl-Alt-F8 cleared the screen, but that was all.

comment How do I monitor Internet download volume to my LAN
My router supports bandwidth monitoring, but - like the software I've looked at - it appears that all traffic, including local LAN traffic, would be included. Does the DD-WRT firmware support the differentiation?

comment windows xp periodically loses network shares
@Shark: I'd hesitate to say all, but certainly on more than one. The router is brand new, and the firmware is up-to-date. I use the same router on our home network with no problems

comment How to sync Google contacts, Mac OS Address Book, and iPhone contacts - Snow Leopard
No, I don't have contacts being sync'ed from Google on the iPhone, just calendars. So if I do as you suggest, Google contacts don't get sync'd with anything. Any other thoughts?
