comment Where can I find a comprehensive list of Fedora17 hotkeys?
Hotkeys will depend on the desktop environment such as KDE or Gnome. Which one are you using?

comment How do you gunzip a file and keep the .gz file?
@Sen: pkunzip is more directly comparable to tar -xzf <filename.tar.gz>; it extracts multiple files from a compressed file, and does not remove the compressed file. In *NIX systems, the concepts of "bundle multiple files together" and "compress data" aren't conflated like they are with .zip. This means that when new compression systems come along, we don't have to reinvent/reimplement the "bundle multiple files together" code/logic.

comment how to access resource fork of hfs+ filesystem on linux
That worked; thanks. Files without a resource fork on the hfs+ filesystem would give a 'permission denied' error when I tried to access /rsrc, which let me determine which files had resource forks and which didn't.

comment Can you add a hard drive to a RAID?
I haven't tried it recently, but Linux software RAID5 was able to create a 2-disk RAID5, and worked fine, including degraded operation and rebuild. Think of a two-disk RAID5 as a computationally expensive RAID1. But it does buy you the ability to add disks later.

Oh, and you may also need to deal with sticky bits; I suspect chowning /bin/su may clear its sticky bit.

A bootable CD will get you started, but you've got a mess on your hands even then....

comment Is it possible to run NXT-G software under Linux using Wine?
@Jan: Yay! There's another Linux-only person here! :) Oh, and check my blog (in my profile) for Linux ports of Lego-related software. (But not NXT-G, sorry.)
