I added my default config. That should cover it, no?

I wish that was the case because EVERYTHING on the internet says to change this, but a grep of my /etc/apache2/* does not show any "allow from all"

That might shed some light on it, but now I get a 500 instead of 403.

comment Structure of an HTTP Header?
Aren't there custom headers defined by CDN's? such as the ones that come back like "x-CDN" or whatever? Those aren't in the spec. And I'm not asking to MODIFY a header that I've received. I'm asking about creating my own header.

comment Which files are run when I log into or reboot my machine?
this is quite odd: grep 2013-07-29 ~/.bashrc ~/.profile ~/.bash_profile ~/.bash_login /etc/profile /etc/bash.bashrc /etc/environment returns: grep: /home/rabdelaz/.profile: No such file or directory grep: /home/rabdelaz/.bash_login: No such file or directory I get that those files don't exist but...it seems as though that '2013-07-29' is coming from SOMEWHERE, right...?

Thank you so much for the thorough answer, Terdon. Would you mind revisiting my updated question? your f(x) isn't working for me. Maybe my assumptions were wrong?

Also, I tried running the cat command you passed along at the grub rescue prompt. I got unknown command 'cat'

@zagrimsan - could you give me some step by step instructions how to do that, perhaps generally ifnot specifically for mint. I'm unsure how to proceed with your advice.

thanks for following up, guys. I haven't had a chance to try any of this stuff yet - i've just been running the machine from the livecd in the meantime for the bare minimum stuff I need to do. Will update when I can get some time to dig into this.

comment Why did my machine stop booting?
I will have to try these things when I get to my machine at home tonight. @zagrimsan, I haven't done any of the above unless some system update happened without my knowledge. per your question: Can I get the system to boot from the disk using the live CD? I'm not sure I quite follow. I can boot the machine from the live CD but i'm not sure what you mean by "boot from disk using the live CD"?

i ran sudo service ssh start, but was still unable to ssh to the remote machine. I've restarted the machine and the service is once again stopped.

@terdon - posted the output of service ssh status. looks like it's not running? @Rik - that grep doesn't return anything but the grep itself.
