@Matthew Flaschen: where would the public key come from? Isn't releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/releases/… also unsecure?

There seems to only be a PGP signature for the Windows version of Thunderbird 3.0.1, releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/releases/… Isn't a public key needed to check the file? If yes, which public key would it be? (E.g. for the application or for Mozilla?)

comment What is a really good RSS reader for Firefox?
How-to: File/New/Account/RSS News & Blogs/Next/Next/Finish. Then click on the new "RSS News & Blogs" in the left hand panel/Manage subscriptions/Add/Feed URL/ "leoville.tv/podcasts/sn.xml"; /OK/<close>. Then click on the new sub item "Security Now!". Double click on any item in the list on the right. Right click on the MP3 file/Save As/ to download it.

comment Disable Autoplay of Audio CDs and USB Drives with registry
It says "in one of the following" (OR). Based on a controlled experiment I conducted today I found it was not sufficient to turn off AutoRun using the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE key. It had to be done using the HKEY_CURRENT_USER key. I don't know if the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE key is required or not. Platform: Windows XP Professional x64 Edition SP2.

HTTP typically uses port 80 on the server side, but it can use any port. Say 7600.

comment How can a paragraph be reformatted in Notepad++?
The clipboard thing is impractical as I am constantly using this feature, but the hardcoded value of 72 is probably acceptable. I will see if I can figure out how to attach a keyboard shortcut to the ReWrap command.

The equivalent of "Preferences" is menu Tools/Options for the Windows version of Thunderbird.

comment Bookmark keyword for “I'm Feeling Lucky”
+1 for providing the short version ("btnI=745"). But I think it is a bad example as the result is empty (it's an old joke (by Scott Hanselman?)) and does not really demonstrate that it works. If "CPU" is used instead of "french military victories" then it will open the top result (a Wikipedia article in this example).

comment Firefox: non-Vimperator way to do mouseless browsing?
Yes, F7, to toggle caret navigation, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caret_navigation, is closest to the way Opera operates. It is still not same as real physical navigation (between links) like Opera, but it is close enough to be useful, especially when combined with the type-and-jump-to-link described elsewhere here. On the other hand when the caret navigation mode is enabled it is possible to select and copy text using only the keyboard.

@glallen: Thanks. It is good to know that it actually works with the type of images I have. I may decide to use this route.

comment How can multiple image TIFF files be converted to JPEG files?
I have downloaded and installed IrfanView. But "/extract" is not working as documented using the sample TIFF file. It saves only one JPEG file (a composite). Perhaps IrfanView can not handle this kind of TIFF file. I have tried with ImageJ and it can do the split (but this is from the user interface.)

This will produce the composite image. I have tried to use the "-deconstruct" option but img2img does not seem to recognise any of the options that it lists if run without parameters. Do you have some examples of img2img invocations with options/parameters?

That seems like an excellent way for exploration and for semi-automatic conversion. But would I always need to start IrfanWiew and bring up this dialog? Or can it done using command-line parameters or using some scripting?
