comment How do you remove a default program association for file types in Windows 7?
When I tried it, it worked without having to change HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT; it worked by only removing the entry in question from HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts. This was in Window 7 Enterprise 64-bit.

comment Change back to 'Windows can't open this file' (Change Windows Default Programs and File Type Associations)
I don't think this solves the problem. The other Super User question, How do you remove a default program association for file types in Windows 7? may be the way to go.

Are there some requirements for this to work? 32-bit vs. 64-bit? Service Pack? Windows edition (home, professional, etc.)? User privileges?

This does not seem to work on Windows 7 (I tried on Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit). When the fake EXE file is removed, it reverts to the previous association.

comment What Windows app can I use to defragment a FAT32 drive's directories at boot time?
User TheNewbie is correct, at least for tools using the Windows defragmentation API (most do): The Windows defragmentation API refuses to move directories on FAT32 filesystems. This is a known limitation of the Windows defragmentation API.

comment Opening VSD files with Visio 2010 Viewer
Despite the name, Visio 2010 viewer, is not a stand-alone application, but it is a plug-in to Internet Explorer. As such it does not really work well. For instance, for printing properly, there is often no other way than to zoom, take a screenshot, crop (in, say, Paint) and print out through some other program, say Word.

comment Why does Excel treat long numeric strings as scientific notation even after changing cell format to text
That is probably because it is stored as a string. What happens if you make another cell be, say, the cell's content multiplied by 2?

comment How do I repartition an SDHC card in Windows?
On one of the computers, I removed the drive letter and tried with "Optimize for quick removal" and with "Optimize for performance" (though the NTFS formatting option did not appear for some reason for the "Optimize for performance" option). I also restarted the computer. The option is still dimmed. I will try it on another computer/setup later today.

comment How do I repartition an SDHC card in Windows?
James: I want to shrink the partition size in order to be able to format as FAT16 (FAT32). This is to do some testing on an embedded device that currently has reliability problems writing to an SDHC card. It may even turn out to be a work-around for the current problem.
