comment Is VPN a more secure solution than SSH tunneling?
The usual way to use port forwarding on SSH is tell your SSH client to listen on something like 127.0.0.1:80 and forward that to a destination IP on the server side. You then have to connect with your browser, RDP client, etc. to 127.0.0.1:80 instead of your normal IP.

comment Computers on the network randomly try to contact ISP DHCP not router DHCP
Off the top of my head, the DHCP clients may be trying to contact the original DHCP server they had talked to previously to renew their leases. However, they should revert to normal broadcast behavior if the renew is unsuccessful.

If you didn't specify the colon with wget either, that's not surprising. You need the colon.

comment Preveting DNS Leaks using gnupg over TOR while allowing key-fetching via DNS
Tor has an option to receive DNS requests DNSPort and resolve them over Tor. So you can set your DNS servers to the local IP that your Tor daemon is listening on. Read more here: trac.torproject.org/projects/tor/wiki/doc/TransparentProxy

Wasn't really saying it didn't belong here, just suggesting it may get a better answer there.
