My name is Jonathan Sampson; I'm a full-stack web developer located near Redmond, Washington, United States. By day I serve as a Program Manager on the Internet Explorer team at Microsoft.

I'm a huge advocate of community, and open-source software. I had the great honor of being a community moderator on Stack Overflow from February 2010 to March 2013. Additionally, I try to give back when and where I can through GitHub.

I recently did walkthroughs on the HTML, and CSS2.1 Specifications. These can be found online at http://youtube.com/jjdsampson. I'd like to kick off more regular hangouts discussing JavaScript, JavaScript frameworks, and modern CSS.

I'm also available to help with open-web issues and cross-browser compatibility. Feel free to reach out to me on twitter, and I'll gladly assist to the best of my ability.

comment Is there any point in using a strong password on a laptop if the HDD is not encrypted?
@Igor Good point. I'm thinking a criminal would probably be quicker to pull the HD out rather than thinking to boot up from an image of Ubuntu and then mount the drive :)

comment “Internet Explorer blocked…files to your computer” - Which Files?
I'm confirmed that the issue is the result of a facebook fan box widget trying to download login_status.php from facebook.com. This is only happening in IE, and won't actually go through with the download if the user attempts to follow-through. But I still can't seem to tell what the file is before agreeing to download blindly from the security bar.

It only occurs in IE, but that doesn't really help me. I need to know what IE is attempting to download specifically since I have many visitors who may be using IE.

comment When your field-terminating char appears within field values
I'm opened to just about any suggestion at this point. Please note that I'm a juvenile linux user, but very comfortable with regex syntax. I'd appreciate any solid direction you can offer.

Unfortunately I don't have the ability to control the field-terminator. Perhaps I need to replace all commas appearing between double-quotes via a regular expression (would need to ask a new question), and then do my sort.

I do have a cellphone. I'll experiment with its placement to see if I find any patterns.

comment More Specific Filesize on Windows
I'm using FileZilla presently, but navigating my local directories is sluggish in the left-pane. As a result, I generally have both windows explorer and FileZilla opened.

Do you have a short bulleted list demonstrating how to get a stream onto my computer as a file?

@John That analogy doesn't really work. That's like suggesting if somebody is going to steal a laptop, they're only going to do so if they're really smart.

comment How can I tell when I logged into Windows?
I don't personally mind a link-answer, as long as I don't have to click it to understand what it is. "Does this work for you" doesn't tell me anything.

Good point. My wireless can take a minute or so to pickup sometimes too.
