If, after following the instructions above, your comptuer still doesn't know; you most probably have some sort of networking issue. Either your router is blocking the traffic, or your Windows firewall isn't configured correctly.

You're going to need Java for way more than you think. Especially since a huge number of websites use java applets. Java is like .NET Framework; it's something you may not use often, but it's a pain in the rear end if you don't have it. Personally, I'd recommend simply updating it and letting it sit there.

In that case, your problem is most probably the converter. You might want to figure out a more 'direct' way of plugging in the screen. It seems like you're going through too many conversions.
