comment What is the danger of inserting and browsing an untrusted USB drive?
This is not specific to a USB mounted filesystem. If a file browser has a vulnerability it could be triggered by files downloaded to your computer through other means too, such as email attachments or downloads through browser.

comment What is the AQS parameter in Google search query
I find it strange that this field is not editable, while the "other" search engines have an editable field.

This works, thanks! I luckily use NoScript already. Still looking for a setting in Chrome.

comment Why does't rsync use delta-transfer for local files?
Reading can be faster than writing to a local disk in certain circumstances. It can also reduce the wear on an SSD. This is certainly a valid question and the answer is quite valuable to me.

@OliverSalzburg Quoting one of the articles that you linked to: "Please note that this article describes our investigation about using magnets to completely erase data on a hard drive. It completely ignores the question of whether a strong magnet can DAMAGE a hard drive. These strong magnets certainly can damage a hard drive if brought close enough. Keep neodymium magnets away from good hard drives!"

The OP (my friend) and I are interested in knowing how much minimum Oe or Tesla would cause even a couple of bits to flip in a hard-drive. I guess a couple of bits (more than the CRC can correct) would still be a problem, even if such a magnet doesn't completely wipe off the disk.

comment Checking security certificates in a browser
Thanks, this helps. Though it doesn't directly address my concern, as I want to check for pre-installed malicious certificates as well.

comment How to configure Linux to act as a Bluetooth RFCOMM SPP server?
@regularte Thanks but I am more comfortable with Java. Your Perl script was a great starting point. Although I lost a day in it, I learnt a lot too! And oh my use-case was very similar to yours. Android-app for telescope sensors, but I don't have them. Hence had to be simulated on Linux :)

And oh, you need to add "\n" to some of the messages, else the screen doesn't flush until process exits.
