comment Stop IE 11 from creating temporary internet files?
@Ƭᴇcʜιᴇ007 thanks for responding! I attempted to do this via the registry for that user's SID but it's possible I either got the wrong reg key or it didn't work. I'll try seeing if "run as" allows me to get to it; that might help me reverse engineer which registry key it is. I have to automate it across many servers so the less "open and click", the better. :)

@DrMoishePippik thanks for the comment! We're actually looking to specifically avoid this -- we have low resource machines, so the less churn the better. We have a similar process in place, but would much prefer the process to take care of itself as it happens.

No worries. You attempted to answer with the knowledge you had, and if I hadn't discovered my answer, I would have made yours work. The threshold for answers can be pretty high around here sometimes but I appreciate your willingness to help out. Welcome!

@Wutanut, I figured out the way to do it naturally -- see my answer to this question for more information. Thanks for your initial help!

comment How to I set up continuous paging in Word across different sections?
@Wutanut, thanks for the attempt at least. I'm aware of the ability to do manual page numbers, but the document will go through several revisions and they'd get out of sync quickly (it's a 40+ page document). Additionally, the page numbering in headers/footers is starting over at 0 in the doc itself, too. I'm hoping someone can inform us how to do this naturally in Word.

comment How to remove a hard drive from an Intel RST RAID configuration?
I should clarify -- I'm pretty sure I already attempted those steps. In the BIOS raid config, I removed the drive from the raid config, and it showed up as "non-raid member". Then, when I booted, Intel RST showed it as not being part of the RAID array, but still showed it in Intel rather than windows. I can't find a way to "delete" it from Intel's control and move it back to the OS as a basic drive..

Great, that's exactly what I was looking for. Just to clarify: are you recommending cloning the drive so that the raid doesn't tax itself trying to synchronize the drives?

comment How to get Win8 installed onto a laptop without DVD or USB?
Frederik, just to follow up on that. If I was to purchase a USB dvd drive right now, wouldn't I still have a problem, because the laptop can't boot from a USB and therefore wouldn't see that drive to boot from it? Or would I start the installation in the DVD drive, move the install DVD to the USB drive, and then try to boot from there somehow? A little confused as to how you'd suggest implementing your idea.

Frederik, I certainly would have tried that...if I have one on hand. Hoping there's a way to do this without making an additional purchase since the laptop is already a money pit of sorts. Will be buying one later if I have to..

comment PivotTable — how to sum the result of a countif formula by group?
While I didn't use this exact technique, I realized that calculating per line on the table (in hidden columns) and then using the pivottable to sum is the easiest way in this case. Thanks for helping me see the simpler answer!

Eventually, I'd like to also to sum up the total purchase cost and total yearly cost from the calculated fields I mention in the comment above as well.

The pivot table shows the sum of each type of license per group. I'd essentially like the following additional fields: full license cost (pivot sum * B16), full license maintenance (PT sum * B19), limited license cost (pt sum * B17), and limited license maintenance (pt sum * B20)

comment Windows 7 install issues with 2x3TB in RAID1
So It sounds like what you're saying is that the drives are partitioned with MBR by default? Win7 setup with bare disks is what led to this. I'm looking into how to use diskpart to achieve the desired partitioning.. Regarding AHCI mode vs. RAID mode: I have the Intel controllers set to RAID mode and the Marvel controller set to AHCI. I've since unplugged the SSD to remove it from the equation.

so since I've updated the Asus P8Z68-V/Pro Gen3 mobo to the latest firmware, this should include the updated driver for the Intel Z68 chipset's native RAID1 support? I've updated the firmware but while the BIOS sees it correctly, windows does not. It seems I need to partition the drives using GPT -- looking into whether that would solve the problem. Was curious as to whether additional drivers at Win7 install startup would have solved it. Can't find any sort of download for this scenario..

comment Windows 7 install issues with 2x3TB in RAID1
Hi Andrew, while you're wrong about my approach (I plan on installing Win7 to the RAID1 array and accelerating that using Intel RST and 64 GB partition on the SSD) -- loading the correct drivers for the controllers seems to be the correct way to go. I guess I have to find the mass-storage drivers first. Any pointers on this would be very helpful. Thanks!

comment Windows 7 install issues with 2x3TB in RAID1
Hi Hennes -- is there a way to partition with GPT from within a UEFI bios? I want Windows to be installed on the 3TB RAID1 (planning to use the SSD as an accelerator for the RAID1 pair). Sounds like if I can get them properly formatted & partitioned using GPT I'd be ok?

comment Outlook 2010 — How to remove categories with Quick Step
Hi Dave, I think an example would help: I have e-mails in my inbox. The "Next Action" QuickStep marks it with the category of "S/Next Action" and moves it to my archive. Now, if I want to make that a "waiting on status", my Quick Step for "Waiting On" removes all categories (and thus the "Next Action") and then applies "Waiting On". But if I use an unrelated category (e.g. "Project A", "Announcements", those get lost too. So I'm looking to set 5 actions within the quick step so it only removes my status categories before re-applying the new status.
