comment How do I get Java applets to work on Mac OS X Mavericks?
Okay. I get java version "1.6.0_65". Not the latest version on Java's website, but I'm not sure if it's the latest provided by Apple.

Thanks, for the extra detail. Unfortunately, this is not what I see in my preferences window. There's no Java option at all.

comment How do I get Java applets to work on Mac OS X Mavericks?
Thanks for the answer, but I don't have a Java control panel in my system preferences. I also don't get any results when I search for Java in the search box. Java was installed by OS X when I tried to run a Java application.

@martineau Thanks, but Java is already installed on my actual system. I already have Java applications running on my computer, but the Java plugin isn't loading on any web browser (I tried Safari, Firefox, and Chrome).

comment How can I tell the transfer rate of each computer on my network?
Unfortunately, I don't have a computer that I can dedicate to monitoring the network traffic. In fact, none of my computers even meet the requirements (two ethernet ports).

@davidgo Thanks, but most of the devices are wireless, so there's no way to determine which the LED is blinking for.

@Usta Thanks, I'll look into it. I'm not sure if this will be possible, but if I'm able to do this, I'll give it a try.

comment Why doesn't the silverlight plugin quit after I close a Netflix tab in my browser?
@MarkLopez In fact, I do use gfx. However, when my computer is connected to an external monitor, it switches to the dedicated card regardless of what's running or what I want. When I disconnect it, it should switch back to integrated, except it doesn't when Silverlight stays running. You're absolutely right about Mac's graphics card decision-making being part of the problem, but I think it's also reasonable to expect Silverlight to quit when I close a Netflix tab.

@MarkLopez You're absolutely right, but it's not my choice when my computer decides it needs the dedicated card. I understand that Silverlight doesn't use any GPU when it doesn't need to, but my computer decides that while Silverlight is running, the dedicated card needs to be on, even if it's not doing anything. It's stupid, but that's just how it works.
