comment What is the purpose of a Windows Workgroup?
Sam, is this what you're asking? standalone: 4 computers on 4 different workgroups, workgroup: 4 computers on same workgroup, "What does the workgroup give you that is impossible to do on a standalone network?"

-1 Could you add more detail on the benefit of standardizing on MSHOME rather than everyone assigning their own workgroup name?

comment Use WiFi router connected to Ethernet not directly to Modem
@irrational John, option 2 is just fine, and often easier than 1 (though I also prefer 1). Whatever the 'original intent of subnets' might have been, this is certainly a tried and true pattern.

comment How to connect a smart router to a dumb DSL modem?
I think DHCP on both is the simplest config. That would eliminate uncertainty about which IP to use: modem assigns random 10...X IP, router connects; router assigns random 192...X IP, computer connects.

Are you sure only 1 of the devices can have DHCP? I'm pretty sure they can both be DHCP'ing on their respective networks. The modem will only have 1 client (router) w/ no collision on its 10.X.X.X network. The router will NAT that connection and DHCP on its LAN side (192.168.X.X). Have you tried keeping DHCP on for both?

comment Adobe Illustrator raster image dimensions?
Not sure how to prevent it with Illustrator. You could use Paint.net to adjust the resolution to 72 (it measures by pixels/inch).

comment Trouble setting up DHCP with WRN2000v2 and GS108 network switch
Makes no sense to me. If I understand auto-MDIX correctly, only 1 of the connecting devices needs it, and the switch has it. Something else is afoot.
