comment How to enhance signal range
Possible duplicate of superuser.com/questions/17897/…, but I'd like to add that mounting the router as high as possible allows the signal to clear obstructions (appliances etc).

@Randall, Perhaps you could combine all your individual shell comments into one Voltron-Shell answer.

comment How To Resolve IP Addresses To Domain Names?
For windows, I seem to remember using ping -a 192.168.0.1 and getting a name back. Can anyone on Windows see if that works for external IP's?

DD-WRT used to have a very similar problem when you used the wrong browser. Have you tried it in IE or Firefox?

@Pacerier, I should have said "ethernet patch cable"; CAT-5 is a common type.

comment pdf and djvu: Raster or vector graphic image
Sorry, not familiar with djvu, but from the wikipedia page, it sounds like a pdf alternative, so the same vector-style scaling should apply.

comment How can I keep the same IP address for one machine in my network?
@mcgrailm, BTW, the "MAC" Wil and I refer to is the Media Access Control address identifier for your network card(s), not your Macintosh.

@mcgrailm, your stock firmware doesn't support static leases, AFAIK. It can, however, be flashed with a custom firmware like DD-WRT which does have this feature.

comment How can I keep the same IP address for one machine in my network?
@mcgrailm, No, you reserve two static IP's for your 2 computers and the router will always give them those 2 IP's. Everything else that connects will behave normally and receive a dynamic IP. Not every Linksys router supports this; what is your model#? Also, the static assignment is actually per MAC address, not computer. So if you assign your wired NIC MAC to an IP, you'll have to create a separate entry for you wireless NIC MAC.

comment What is the use of Mind Mapping software?
Mind mapping software is for mind mapping. If you're asking "What is mind mapping?", that's outside Superuser's scope. Voting to close. But to answer the question, it's like a different arrangement for essentially a hierarchal bulleted list. Pretty much outlining, you know I, A, 1, a, etc.

Smallnetbuilder's throughput charts can give some indications of general horsepower if you're thinking of upgrading.

lol volume control keys are out of order: mute -> loud -> soft. I'd rather have those away from the other buttons, larger and off to the side.
