comment Private WLAN - secure it, but allow “guest” access
Hm, I had no idea they started including guest modes. Just found a D-link DIR-655, Belkin N+ F5D8235 and an iLinksys, I mean Valet. Cool.

Hm, you're not keen on them installing software (7z) and you don't want a website. FedEx?

Yeah this router does have an implementation of WPS they call Push-N-Connect. But your buddy could fish up your password later on with Nirsoft's Wirelesskeyview.

1) A really long CAT-5. 2) 3rd party firmware. DD-WRT does hotspots and supports this model. Too bad the native firmware doesn't do this, even though it does allow multiple SSID's.

comment How can I find out who is connected to my wireless router? (Linksys WRT54g)
Don't know if computers not on DHCP will show up, though.

comment What's DMZ used for in a home wireless router?
@quack, the switch isn't port specific, it's a regular switch. So my compromised machine can attack any other machines on the switch w/out being filtered through a router rule. Regarding the VLAN, I believe I could change the IP (or MAC) on my compromised machine to something on the internal network and hack away. The 4 ports on the back of some high-end routers behave as 4 NIC's not a 4-port switch, so a rule can be set up like block all traffic from #4 to #1,#2,#3 which is impossible w/ a L2 switch.

comment How do I lock a remote desktop session so others stop disconnecting me?
Yes, with Windows Server you get 2 whole logons before it starts kicking people off. If you're actually trying to compare Terminal Server + tscals with Windows XP, the slight price disparity might be the reason for using XP as a server.

Well, harvesting addresses and contacts through crawling is a shady business. Real client-vendor relationships usually involve exchanges through private transactions and EDI.

Hm, I see. I was assuming you were looking for something fully automated, which I think would be very difficult. The semantic structure for the page you linked was very unintuitive, and unfortunately probably represents a typical case. Maybe with some training by the user, like selecting a pattern to match as you suggest it could be done. Still sounds tricky, code-wise, though I'm sure marketing depts would pay dearly for such an app...

comment What is the safest and least expensive way to store 10 terabytes of data?
Just to provide some numbers, 10TB on Amazon S3 is $1500/mo. There's also a "value" option at $1000/mo called reduced redundancy.

comment Why is it so hard to connect with a cable modem and router?
^^^ This is the order that works for me, too. 1)Everything off 2) router on, 3)cable modem on, 4)everything else. And if I change the MAC address on the router, I need to power cycle the cable modem to get reconnected to the internet. It usually leases me a new IP, too.

What OS's are successful? Vista? 7? OSX? You matched the security type accurately? WPA, WPA2-AES, WPA2-TKIP, etc.

comment How can I use the VPN connection of my client VM?
I was looking for this, too a while back. They say ShrewSoft VPN works, serverfault.com/questions/5221/64-bit-cisco-vpn-client-ipsec. Never figured out how to configure it, though that's on the backburner.

Couple all that with it being a Mac app: it won't be easy to find.

I think this is niche enough to warrant a separate question. I don't feel it's as trivial as Daisetsu claims, esp. w/ Photoshop weighing $1000+ (waiting for paint.net plug). If someone just wants to sell software that doesn't actually ship but thinks a tangible box looks professional, they need this. I've used a free one before and it's a lot easier than PS/Fireworks/gimp etc. See also superuser.com/questions/105990/whats-up-with-software-box-shots/…. Voting to reopen.

comment How do I set up a wireless router with two different passwords such that there are two different behaviors based on which password you use
While I'm also sure DD-WRT can do this (with 2 SSID's, not sure about 3), I haven't actually tried it myself. Anyway, here's a write up to get you started.

comment Hardware and software used in DIY routers
All you want is a wireless 802.11 repeater? You've already mentioned DD-WRT; it has a wireless repeater bridge mode that connects to a specified SSID, regardless of strength and rebroadcasts it. If you use a dual radio router like the Netgear WNDR3300, you won't lose 1/2 bandwidth doing it (although in that case you'll be receiving in N and broadcasting as G or v/v).
