comment Is there a way to force the mouse to act like a touchscreen?
As is said earlier, a touchpad is not a touchscreen. However, you may want to look for some third party utilities for a Logitech or other touchpad that may help it function like a touchscreen. Seems it would be useful to a lot of people.

Consider searching instructables.com for a home remedy. Could save you from a store purchase. Good luck.

Consider making sure you have permission to write the png file to the current directory.

comment Stop a process from listening to specific port but not kill it?
Process is java. I am pretty sure it is spawned by another java application than tomcat that I'd prefer not to stop. No matter. I think you've answered my question. I'll have to kill the process regardless. I don't think there is any way to command the process to stop listening.

It is run-time.

@Oliver Salzburg let me add. I am not certain that VMWare Player has unity. It may. VMWare Workstation does for sure. Good luck.

@Ramhound I am fairly certain that you can now create virtual machines with Player. It is a recently added feature from VMWare. I think it was about the same time they stopped offering VMWare Server for free.

comment Windows 7 Remote Control Tools
It is very much dependent on the environment you were in. Please clarify if you were on a network at work, if it was an Active Directory network if you know at all, etc. Yes, there are "Windows Remote Assitance" features. There is a Remote Desktop Client software.

If on Windows, VMWare Player is free. Some do not realize this yet but VMWare Player now lets you build virtual machines, not just "play" them.

Consider using the virtual machine, not just for evaluation. VMWare, for example, has a unity feature. You can break the application windows out onto your host desktop. They are virtually part of your host machine. Use snapshot features as well. This will allow you to rollback your virtual machine if you do not like or there are problems with the applications.

"give it a try" makes it no more legal.

comment Stop TV from turning off when used as PC monitor?
Even if it is set to never turn off the screen, power saving can stop sending a signal to the display. For example, many of your newer displays, even with a screensaver, will turn themselves off. Good luck on finding the answer. I am curious too.

comment Touchpad does not respond when I am holding key on the keyboard
Also let me add that even if you had a mouse to test with, I am not confident it would help. The mouse may work while pressing these keys. But, if I recall correctly, the setting is specific to touchpad on a ThinkPad.

Sorry. I have had a few Thinkpad and other PC laptops. I currently use a Macbook so I can't be more specific. One additional thing to check is if you have a hard button on the laptop. I have seen ones in the past where you could press a hard button and it would turn the touchpad off. If you have one, and it is "on", then it may be preventing use while typing.

comment How to choose a modem/router/WAP based on it's various features?
While I can't answer your questions I do propose that you begin by reading reviews of your service provider(s). Other customers may be having similar experiences to you. You may find that the provider is part or all of the problem. dslreports.com may be a good starting point. Good luck!
