comment Do I need to be worried about these SMART drive temperatures?
You should be fine, then - based on this it looks like it's not actually reporting the raw value. Just to be sure, what is the output of smartctl -l scttempsts /dev/sdc?

I suppose it could be a normalized value, but this would be atypical for a temperature reading. The detailed drive specification would be good to have, if the OP can say what model the Hitachi drives are.

comment httperrors for Linux
I don't know, but I have used Xdebug in the past, when I needed a PHP debugger and profiler. It worked quite well for me (although I haven't needed to write PHP in a while, luckily).

comment how to install portable virtual box on LINUX HOST
If you will be using the VM on different hosts frequently, it would be a good idea to place your working directory on the flash drive.

comment how to install portable virtual box on LINUX HOST
This is not going to be easy to do. VirtualBox requires kernel drivers to be present - it's not as simple as copying some files to the drive (even on Windows, the portable version consists of software to load and unload the drivers, and therefore needs administrative privileges). It would probably be easier to install VirtualBox natively and carry only the VM on your flash drive.

Do you want to export the VM to a flash drive, or do you want to install VirtualBox to the flash drive?

comment Would Changing fstab file entry to rw put data on Hard Drive at risk?
What that option does is to remount the root partition as read-only if mount encounters any errors. If there is an issue with the filesystem, trying to write to it could result in data loss. In your case, though, the problem is not related to this (your system would not be able to complete the boot process if the entire root filesystem were read-only). So it is unlikely to have any effect on your issues with the wireless and the USB ports.

If Memtest shows millions of errors at the default timings, have you considered that the memory might be bad?

comment How do I convince my computer my touchscreen doesn't exist?
If it is a USB digitizer, you should be able to simply disconnect it internally (unless it is integrated into the board somehow). You could certainly try removing the "touch control board" (this would probably work, but I'm not familiar with that model).

comment Hard drive: more RPM or higher capacity, which is faster?
There are other factors besides data density and spindle speed that can affect performance. Cache size and even firmware are going to have an effect. The best thing to do would be to look at the benchmarks for the individual drives (particularly for small file I/O, as this will have a greater impact on speed for normal usage than sustained transfer rates).

comment How to provide DRM/file security across an entire DFS?
If you want to keep anyone (students, I guess) from accessing the files, you will need some kind of encryption (I guess you could give people flash drives with keyfiles instead of making them remember passwords...).

This has been asked many times before. If a file can be read, it can be copied.

comment Where to install programs in Arch Linux?
There are conventions, but within those conventions where you put things is up to you. I personally put proprietary software in /opt. You can likely put the symlinks anywhere in your PATH.
