While waiting for ET contact to occur, I like to dabble in photography, listening to U2 and lend a helping hand to anyone who needs one.

@Karan - any idea of the size of USB drive that would be needed/recommended? Would a 4GB pen drive suffice?

I'm more concerned about being forced to go thru with the upgrade by the Upgrade Assistant program.

comment Restoring Palm contacts
I would tend to disagree - assuming you have an always-on data connection, one's contacts / sms can easily be synced to the cloud. At least on an Android phone, thus obviating the need for one to manually "hotsync" each time changes to one's contacts were made in Palm.

comment After Intel's admission, should Sandy Bridge processors be used?
thanks for the effort expended. But I'm based in Bombay, India. Amazon/Newegg etc. aren't places I can source my hardware from. At least, not inexpensively.

So, I can use the processor, but at the moment there aren't any motherboards that support it, right?

User doesn't have internet access. That's one of the main hitches.

You didn't mention that there was no internet access. I don't suppose you could connect an external dial-up modem. is there any ISP in your locale that still offers dial-up internet access?

Added answer with generic usb mass storage driver. see if it works. Also check manufacturer website for old win98 drivers.

So, the PC has USB ports but you can't find Win98 drivers for a flash drive, right? is this 98 or 98SE?

I believe non-system partitions can also be included in the protection as described here.

What if within Firefox's Privacy Settings, you accept site cookies but no 3rd party cookies - would that solve the issue?

True...so you only use it on the system partition. I believe you can specify which partitions to use it on. Shift all user files to another partition(unprotected). Also see Comodo Time Machine - comodo.com/home/data-storage-encryption/data-recovery.php , which allows a system to be restored to a previous state.

I personally already use Enigmail as well as GPGShell. Both work exceedingly well. However, getting an ordinary user to switch from what is undoubtedly the majority interface (webmail) to a client isn't practical. I'm looking for some way to let a total n00b click one or two links and know whether or not the message was tampered with / originated from me.
