comment 2 monitors and laptop display at the same time
I have Optimus in my Thinkpad and I can use (at least) 2 external displays + internal at the same time. According to the tool the NVIDIA card gets switched on when the DisplayPort port is used.

comment What does the main Chrome process use so much memory for?
Not yet, I just restarted it and the memory usage is still reasonable. But I ran your method and have hope to see something helpful when it happens again.

@magicandre1981 As a matter of fact your comment is a proper answer to my question... mind making it one?

comment What connectors do USB 3.0 devices use?
You might want to put the paragraph "And in my experience..." at the top or make it bold, because that is the actual answer.

In fact previously I had overlooked this one that indeed has the normal Micro-B. I found it only when I - inspired by your answer - searched for Micro-B explicitely.

@RichHomolka Did you consider an USB-A to USB-A cable "normal" before the introduction of USB 3.0?

comment What does the number after 7-zip's -m switch mean?
See my updated question for more numbers. As far as I understand the filter (BCJ2 in this case) splits up .exe files, right? I am compressing PDFs here, so maybe it can do something with those, too?

comment What does the number after 7-zip's -m switch mean?
Yep, I'd say somehow reproducible. I replaced the output with a table where I repeated the set. I noticed that with -m1 the CPU time is more than the wall time, so there must be some multithreading at work.

Nope, I was talking about the 0 (and 1 respectively), not about the 9.

comment Why does NTFS compression take up a lot of space?
Further investigation showed that this also happens with an artificial test set of 30k files with each 10kB size. Furthermore, it does only happen on my C and D drive, not on a freshly formatted NTFS Truecrypt volume.

Yes, that's exactly what happens - repeatably.
