comment Make Regular User automatically Root on Ubuntu (i.e., make Ubuntu behave like Windows XP)
Some people just aren't ready or willing to drop the Windows mind-set.

+1 - If it can't be done with ahk, it can't be done at all.

comment How to avoid losing all my files when my Dropbox syncs to a compromised Dropbox account?
Is there something unique about dropbox that would be cause for concern? This same scenario could play out with your email account as well, could it not? I back up my email over IMAP with getmail, so honestly I couldn't care less if someone cracked my account and cleaned everything out. My question is, why single out dropbox here?

comment How to make google Chrome omnibar search sites permanent?
Unticking 'Clear saved form data' when you clear your cache and history may prevent your searches from being erased.

comment Set password for root on virtualbox ubuntu
Oh, in that case you're talking about single-user mode, which isn't the same as 'rescue mode', where you typically perform rescue operations.

No, the problem is that OP doesn't know the root password- "it asks for root password and I don't know it!", to quote. Booting into rescue mode won't get him anywhere.

'rescue mode' is for disaster recovery, not adding users to the admin group. A 'visudo' command or 'sudo vi /etc/sudoers' should be sufficient.

comment Ubuntu GUI is ugly after updating graphic drivers
Scrollbars fall under 'Controls', along with radio buttons, titlebars, etc. It should be the first tab displayed under 'Customize'.

-1. This is full of wrong. What does GDM have to do with anything? OP wants to 'cd' to a dir readable only by root. No one should ever log in as root via GDM.

@unknown - I've always figured you'd have to spawn a subshell to run shell builtins as root, whether in bash or plain old sh. I'm determined to figure this out.
