comment Enable Bottom-Right Numbers in VIM
at first I didn't have a ~/.vimrc, I only had a ~/.viminfo and I tried to edit that but it silently failed saving my changes. So I had to create a new file at ~/.vimrc and it's working great!

thanks for the reference for lvresize. Since 99% of my data is in mysql I just moved the mysql folder into /home and symlinked it rather than deal with resizing the volume

@uSlacker the /dev/mapper/VolGroup-lv_root is the root of the virtual disk, that is what is supposed to be dynamically increasing

comment Ways to reduce the disk size of Windows XP
I tried installing XPSP3 on a netbook with a 4GB SSD. I could get everything installed for a vanilla instance with the exception of one .Net update. But I was pushing ~3.7GB without hard disk compression.

comment Troubleshooting an mysteriously unstable machine
@Anteru by getting a UPS :-) There are also power conditioners that don't have the UPS functionality in it so it is cheaper. I think the most direct way to check the quality of the power coming in would be an oscilloscope, though that's an expensive toy to have unless you are hardcore.

@Anteru from @BBlake's suggestion, it appears that the one constant in your problems is the power coming into the computer. (If you haven't already) try a UPS, if that doesn't solve the problem I would take out everything but the bare essentials, 1 RAM stick, just the video card, 1 hard drive. If it crashes swap out the pieces with one of the other RAM sticks/Hard drice/etc until you have a stable system. Then add components very slowly (i.e.- 1 a week) and when you start having crashes you know where to look.

comment Disk space - when to concern oneself about it?
@Xantec true, it's not fail safe. But if something takes out both local backups and an online backup you are probably going to have more important issues to deal with :-)

comment is it safe to save files to the desktop in Windows 7?
there is a bugs in windows dealing with file storage that is discussed on the latest episode of Windows Weekly. Thurrott talks about saving files to his desktop and issues related to that. Not sure if the problem is specific to the desktop or if it's any folder

comment jQuery disabled on Firefox. I cannot enable it
@Mehper my guess would be that there is some sort of security setting in FF that is blocking the jquery download. But I'm not aware of how to fix it, if that is the problem

@random how is this off topic? I'm trying to find if there are any linux compatible broadband cards? I'm not asking for buying advice, I'm asking for information if they exist
