I am mostly a Linux and OSX user, but also have spent some time with Windows. I am by trade a programmer, but have been tinkering with computers since the 8 bit era.

Telnet to windows host backspace key wrong I meant terminal settings for the putty client to get normal behaviour from the default windows telnet server (normal meaning that backspace, cursor keys etc work by moving cursors and deleting characters visibly, and not deleting the prompt). |

Telnet to windows host backspace key wrong Unhelpful. This isn't some exotic weird client. This is one that is standard. |

Web browser is playing the video clips very quickly This can actually depend on the video, as some cannot be re-encoded for HTML 5 and will be using flash (I think this is more a licensing than tech problem). Right clicking the video widget should tell you what is being used. |

Should Windows 7 home premium have chgport? Hmm - seems like I may genuinely be missing it - although this makes no sense for a fresh install. Going to look around. |

How to get Windows XP to snap windows to desktop like Vista? Worth mentioning - that software is free, with CC by-nc-nd 3.0 - so you can install it anywhere, but not put it on a disk and sell it. |

Why does MDS run wild in Mac OS X 10.6? Hmm - since spotlight seems to be trying to be clever in the UI when disabling time machine backups (it notifies it will still be indexing parts of the drive) - I've resorted to command line stuff from here- mikesel.info/disable-spotlight - to try and stop it hitting it, |

Why is “Everything is a file” unique to the Unix operating systems? Hmm - you know, I've been meaning to look it up for ages since finding out through an Eric Raymond book years ago... You've actually finally got me over the "get round to it" hump, I've downloaded the ISO and trying it out. |

Why is “Everything is a file” unique to the Unix operating systems? Plus 1 for mentioning plan 9. IMHO Fuse brings plan 9 closer to an implementation through ad-hoc and iteration. |

SSH from mac to linux -> start gnome-session -> X11 keyboard mapping all messed up Justin - that answer worked for me, can you perhaps mark it as the correct answer? |

Can I save my Firefox tabs? I've forced myself into the habit of using a task list to add pages that I will want to read later, instead of leaving the tabs open. I try to close my browser at the end of each day. I say try - because I often still end up leaving stuff open over the weekend. |
