comment Keyboard shortcut to unhide or unminimize a window in OS X
"You must depress the Command key after pressing the Option key!" This is confusing - how can you depress the Command key if you were already holding it in?

comment No internet connection when connected via wi-fi, but fine via ethernet (DD-WRT)
I'm on a Mac, but that's beside the point - I've tried to connect with this machine as well as a windows machine, and neither is able to get an outside connection when connected to this router via wi-fi.

To whomever downvoted this question: could you please explain why? Thanks!

What should I be looking for when I run ifconfig? I'm sure there is something blocking my wireless connectivity, but I can't figure out what, which is why I asked the question here.

How do I check that I have received the IP from the DHCP pool. How do I check that the wireless NIC MAC is not blocked in the router?

Turns out this isn't isolated to connecting with a Mac - my old windows machine also can't get an outside connection via wifi. I'll ask a new question for this.

Now it seems as though I'm able to get an outside connection when my computer is connected to the router with an ethernet cable, but not when connected via wi-fi. Marking this as accepted since it seems to have solved the problem, and I'll probably go ask about the wi-fi issue on apple.SE, since I've had a similar wi-fi problem with another network, and only since upgrading to Mountain Lion.

Actually, I take that back - it seemed to work, but then the same problem returned. I'll report back if I can gather any mor info. Does the MAC address eventually revert back to the original from the cloned one? If so, that would explain it working temporarily.

You were correct - I cloned the MAC address of the other router, and it works great now. THANKS!

comment rm on MINGW32, cannot unlink not owner
For me, the permissions of the parent directory are drwxr-xr-x. I tried chmod 775 on the parent directory (which should result in drwxrwxr-x), but running ls -l again shows that the permissions did not change. If I run the chmod with the verbose flag, it claims that permissions were changed, but again, running ls -l shows that they were not.

comment Cygwin fatal error: is not a directory
And there was the problem: the relevant line did have the $ at the beginning: export TODO_DIR=dirname "$/cygdrive/c/Users/Travis/todo/todo.txt". I changed that and it works now.

I think Cygwin is adding that somehow. In my .bashrc file I have: alias t="/cygdrive/c/users/Travis/todo/todo.sh", and the following produces the same error when executed from the shell: /cygdrive/c/users/travis/todo/todo.sh add "test"

comment How can I get Windows 7 to switch audio from a monitor (with built-in speakers) to headphones when they are plugged in?
Sadly, I don't think this will work for me, but good answer anyway. My laptop just has an integrated sound card and I can't find anything other than the usual Windows settings.

I have now tried booting with the SSD both inside and outside of the laptop, but either way, I get the message about inserting a bootable disk.

No, I haven't tried booting with the SSD in the docking station. I'll try that now.

I have tried both connections from the docking station - same behavior with each (Intel RST notices the drive, but it is not visible in Windows). This was the case both before and after I created the partition on it and restored the HDD image to it. I may update the BIOS to see if that fixes it - does that seem like a good thing to try?

I have not tried that. To clarify, do you mean having the SSD in the laptop, booting from a Windows 7 install disc, and attempting to repair the installation on the SSD?
