comment Could I save printer's ink/toner by changing the font?
Richard is totally right, how did you get the idea that serif fonts would "pollute the vision"? It is much, much more comfortable on the eyes in long texts. Why do you think are virtually all newspapers and books printed in serif fonts? Hint: toner is NOT a consideration, large newspapers care only about typography.

comment Custom Date Format in MS Word 2010
@wizlog: It also has the additional drawback that while the "short date format" is set to "2011", the display of the date in the taskbar tray changes, and when I have it not set to "2011", this option immediately disappears from the list and also from the list in Word.

@wizlog: It doesn't get saved :( even if I save the file, after a restart the number is 11 again ... I can then still change it to 2011, hit save, but that only works during one session, on the next it's gone again.

@wizlog: I tested it again and it worked -- kind of. It introduced some `\` symbols in Word at first but worked at the second try. Thanks. Please make a little edit to your answer so I can change my vote (otherwise the site wouldn't let me).

comment What is a good and simple workplace instant messenger?
Went for this option, just needs a small driver from Apple: support.apple.com/downloads/Bonjour_for_Windows and then works flawlessly in Pidgin! Thanks. Just a note: Bonjour on Pidgin does NOT support offline messages. They also can't be stored locally until the other peer goes online again.

+1 for suggesting two good-looking alternatives that I've never heard of. :)

@wizlog: OK, if you say that, I'll try again tomorrow. I actually opened the dialog you mention but had the impression that it just lets me specify ONE way of formatting numbers, not change or expand MS Word's format list. I'm probably mistaken if you are so sure of this. I'll get back to you and change the downvote into an upvote if it works.

@wizlog: I'm on Windows Vista, but that has nothing to do with the Word-internal list of date formats. The mentioned "default setting" for the text field is specified in the template. I guess the easiest way to change the format is to unzip the docx file, find the XML source code specifying the textbox properties, editing those and zipping everything up again. Let's see.

comment Force specific CPU core usage in programs on Windows 7
Do you know if there is also a way to run a thread on a particular core? Because GSC Game World claimed in one update to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. that they moved the calculation of detailed objects to the second processor core and I can't imagine that they used a full-fletched process for that, a simple thread would make more sense. comment Skype 5 not working on Windows 7 x64 after EasyBits GO installation — had to switch back to v4
LOL. I had Skype running in Windows Vista mode on purpose, to be able to minimize it to the system tray. Glad to see they now offered an option in the Skype settings for that. Thanks for your suggestion, it worked! But why the heck it suddenly stopped working, I can't imagine.
