Thanks! The sed works for me on OSX. I haven't tried the awk.

Neither version works for me. The first version: output file is same as input file (no quotes were added). Second version: I'm getting an "undefined label" error from sed. I'm on OSX Lion, if that affects things.

Do you have any references on how to easily share files over the local network?

comment OSX: The item XYZ.txt~ can’t be moved to the Trash because it can’t be deleted
@Nick -- When I right click on the file and click get info, nothing happens. The pop-up that usually is supposed to show up (the one that I get with other, more normal files and folders) does not show up.

The line ended up being: hi PreProc ctermfg=5 (and all other places with ctermfg=5), which I changed to ctermfg=7.

Oh, excellent! Thanks! @garyjohn , confirmed. I have just rm ~/bin and mkdir ~/bin, and now when I do a copy the file is moved into the directory as you say.

No backup. Is there a way to restore to default? It is almost a fresh install, so there shouldn't have been much there. I am trying to avoid a reinstall of the whole system.
