comment gVIM “put” driving me mad, how do I “put” at the beginning of a line
bad form, calculating... sheesh. human brain regularly only handles 7 to 10 concepts simultaneously, the consideration of keystrokes taken by one and then you want a calculation... involving 3 more numbers?! no way.

comment Is there a Unix-y tool for taking notes on the command line?
i think i like your answer the best, however it doesnt do everything. by using the tnotes command you can incorporate the note taking into a script. both versions have their ups and downs, but i think yours is the most bulletproof and doesnt rely on other programs. you seem to have really mastered screen and the command line and i think everyone can learn a lot by trying, exploring, and practicing. thanks for the encouragement and inspiration.

comment Change terminal colors when connecting to remote server, Linux
I upvoted this because it's a great technique and something I already do... in fact I use unique colors using the prompt command for each server... the prompts are the same, but the colors i type in and the base color is different for each of my servers. it's the easiest way of looking at a terminal withouth having to read anything (even a title bar or prompt) and KNOW FOR SURE, which server you're connected to.

That's correct, rsync works very well as a solution on Windows. From my understanding, in some cases, it does have a "quirk" (it has to be done a little differently than you would expect on Windows.

My work blocks based on text strings in the entire URL with HTTP variables even, so this doesnt work for me.
