comment How Do You Replace Individual Periods/Full Stops Without Replacing Decimal Points?
regexp is supported in notepad++ as well (with the proper option selected in the replace dialog).

Answered before the clarifications...In notepad++, use the "extended search mode" option to gain access to \t.

I use it for pretty much the same thing you do, though I run it manually from the workstation. If you remember the reason, let us know!

comment Reduce Skype CPU utilization
some person in the skype thread (linked to in the se thread linked in comments) suggested that an earlier version which does not have/support the "ad bar" area does not suffer from this problem. Perhaps you might try identifying the ad server's IP and add that to your hosts file with a redirect to "localhost" as a test...

comment Can a 32-bit CPU address 4 Gigabits or 4 Gigabytes of memory address space?
this speaks to the question pretty directly. It is like having an apartment building with more apartments than mailboxes. The address space is the set of mailboxes, the bytes are the apartments. The size of the apartments has little to do with the number of mailboxes.

Ad aware? Check under "scans" settings for an exclusion list. AFAIK, this list is honored for real-time scanning as well as scheduled scans.

comment DPI nightmare - Cannot find a good setting
the blurring is an artifact of pixel resampling and cannot be avoided except by not scaling. The real answer is to increase the font size (fonts are vector objects and are scaled mathematically before rendering to the "pixel grid"). But AFAIK, you cannot do this for e.g. the metro interface and apps. You probably can adjust the "classic desktop" in some manner, but this will not have much impact on the individual programs. ctrl+scrollwheel zooms in word and increases font size in many browsers. ctlr+0 resets to 100%

What happens when disable "real-time" virus protection and/or add an exception (whitelist) for the specific folder that the video is in?

comment What is the file name + extension for a file with a period as the first character (example: .txt)?
I have always thought of extensions as an organizational tool. For the purposes of the question, it seems that if the . is index 0 then it is {part of name} otherwise if last occurrence then {extension}

comment Windows 8.1 missing font files after restart
I took this approach on a winxp machine a number of years ago. The "fonts folder" is a magic folder in that windows relies on the registry and does not ever present to you what is on the disk in an "honest" fashion. In my case, the first entry in the fonts list in the registry was corrupted. I exported the key, deleted it, then imported the export file. The import process dropped the invalid entry.

comment Copy Image from PDF
it is unclear if this is the case with your image, but it is possible that the image is black with an alpha channel or transparency applied. I have seen SVG files (graphs, charts) which wrap a raster image in an SVG container and use that image as a mask on a black rectangle. (this defeats the purpose of using SVG vector files, but there it is)

comment Can I get Microsoft Word to save before Windows goes into sleep mode? (avoiding having to 'recover' files)
DDE may be an alternative: check for the application and switch to it. Macros are "protected content" sometimes, so you might have to alter the normal template macro permissions.

This reminds me of Ye Olde problem where the system address space gets eaten up such that the memory can't be properly referenced. (VCache)
