comment Windows 7 long delay before opening videos
Ad aware? Check under "scans" settings for an exclusion list. AFAIK, this list is honored for real-time scanning as well as scheduled scans.

comment DPI nightmare - Cannot find a good setting
the blurring is an artifact of pixel resampling and cannot be avoided except by not scaling. The real answer is to increase the font size (fonts are vector objects and are scaled mathematically before rendering to the "pixel grid"). But AFAIK, you cannot do this for e.g. the metro interface and apps. You probably can adjust the "classic desktop" in some manner, but this will not have much impact on the individual programs. ctrl+scrollwheel zooms in word and increases font size in many browsers. ctlr+0 resets to 100%

What happens when disable "real-time" virus protection and/or add an exception (whitelist) for the specific folder that the video is in?

comment What is the file name + extension for a file with a period as the first character (example: .txt)?
I have always thought of extensions as an organizational tool. For the purposes of the question, it seems that if the . is index 0 then it is {part of name} otherwise if last occurrence then {extension}

comment Windows 8.1 missing font files after restart
I took this approach on a winxp machine a number of years ago. The "fonts folder" is a magic folder in that windows relies on the registry and does not ever present to you what is on the disk in an "honest" fashion. In my case, the first entry in the fonts list in the registry was corrupted. I exported the key, deleted it, then imported the export file. The import process dropped the invalid entry.

comment Copy Image from PDF
it is unclear if this is the case with your image, but it is possible that the image is black with an alpha channel or transparency applied. I have seen SVG files (graphs, charts) which wrap a raster image in an SVG container and use that image as a mask on a black rectangle. (this defeats the purpose of using SVG vector files, but there it is)

comment Can I get Microsoft Word to save before Windows goes into sleep mode? (avoiding having to 'recover' files)
DDE may be an alternative: check for the application and switch to it. Macros are "protected content" sometimes, so you might have to alter the normal template macro permissions.

This reminds me of Ye Olde problem where the system address space gets eaten up such that the memory can't be properly referenced. (VCache)

How much video memory is in use? Memory stats usually only refer to mainboard ram. I expect the gtx780M is a mobile card and they don't always have as much dedicated video ram as a desktop version (and then laptop manufacturers may have their own oem spec). I don't have win 8.x so I don't know if it complains about low memory conditions WRT gpu.

the "system" process is, more or less, a handler for other programs and from your screen capture there is a lot of activity. Resource monitor (resmon.exe) is part of windows and can tell you what files are being read and written by the offending process. This will point you to a possible cause.

comment How to turn on WIFI via cmd?
Sometimes the button is built in by the manufacturer and disconnects power to the WIFI via hardware and works without OS interaction, Other times it is just a windows notification button that relies on OEM software. If you can identify the laptop model it may be possible to tell if there is a software solution.

comment Windows 8 sleeps minutes after full screen video ends
Consider the possibility that "When playing video" means something a lot more specific than what you or I think of (i.e. this might mean "when microsoft windows media player version NN.NN is playing video"). Check to see if VLC or youtube in a browser actually trigger this condition.

comment Windows 8 - imagehlp.dll missing
If I recall correctly, using chkdsk with the "/R" option requires a locked drive and it should ask if you want ot run it at reboot. If you haven't run it with the repair option so that it checks before it boots windows, try that. Your scan output mentions files in use by the system. Not sure if that means they were skipped during scanning, and the problem you have seems to be a problem with "system files".
