comment Why is Chrome ignoring /etc/hosts on OS X?
As I said. I have no problems with custom /etc/hosts entries. The bug report you linked suggests the problem is somewhere in nsswitch.conf instead but the default behaviour seems to use the hosts file anyway so your issue might not be related to this anyway.

The fact that Chrome also queries the Google DNS might not mean /etc/hosts is ignored. This can be simply for optimization/logging/spying purposes. I use /etc/hosts file very often on OS X and have no problems with Chrome.

Chrome is actually not ignoring /etc/hosts file on OS X. At least not Chrome v43 on OS X 10.10.3.

It's easy when you copy files from client to server, but what about the other way around?

Similar problem here on 10.8.2 ... Finder does take over focus even when *.dmg file is clicked in the Downloads stack (in Dock)
