There's no such thing as a Windows XP server. XP is a workstation OS.

It would help greatly if you told us what it is you're trying to achieve. The questions is far from clear.

comment Installing Powershell 3.0 on Windows 7 - updates were not installed
It probably didn't deserve a downvote but it's going to get closed. The question as written contains absolutely nothing to indicate it is anything other than an end-user question.

comment How many serial ports can be configured in Windows 7?
You may be right. I don't have any references to hand but recall that I looked up the information when I was writing a comms program for Win95, which was obviously a few years ago.

Windows has supported 256 ports since Windows 95, at least according to the API documentation.

Then leave out the space before after the ">", and strip the trailing newline when you read the file.

While we don't normally do product recommendations in this instance I'll suggest R-Studio, which I've used many times in these circumstances.

@pjmorse, I don't point people to specific areas of the FAQ because I want them to read all of it. As it only takes a few minutes to read the whole thing it's not asking much lot of people. In this instance other sections of the FAQ were also relevant.

You're asking for a level of control that Chrome is not designed to provide.

@pQd, you've read the question. Do you really think this person is capable of installing and configuring a Samba system?

comment Rescue DOS (probably FAT16) files
@DanH, there are so many adapters available for this that it's a non-issue. Besides, if it's an XP machine the likelihood of it having an IDE connector is high. We are after all talking about a decade old OS.

comment Are scratched gold contacts a sign for already used RAM?
I have to say that is definitely grounds to be suspicious. Normal automated testing procedures use touch contacts that don't leave a mark and I don't like the odds of you having received more than one batch of manually tested pieces. For that matter, even getting two at one time is pretty unlikely.

If you're at all concerned don't wait for an email response. Phone them.

Of course if you had read the FAQ you would already have been aware of that. Please take a moment to do so now.
