comment Can I define a paragraph so it contains different styles?
See this answer. It describes how to use different styles by word and within a paragraph. I'm not sure if it will be useful to you, as it is more table based, and you're using text in an unfamiliar way to me. I don't know much about this, so no criticism intended!

comment How do I physically find a wifi device using a laptop or mobile phone
@AlEverett I wonder if he's triangulated the location yet? It's been nearly three months since he lost it.

comment Password memorization and autocomplete heuristics in Chrome
Based on the comments on this question superuser.com/questions/457310/… it doesn't seem like you can get Google Chrome to do what you want. But there isn't any explanation on that question, so I don't know what Chrome's actual criteria are, which is what you wanted to know.

comment Laptop turning off when fan is spinning hard
Alternatively, you could try using a partially blocked (like with your hand), vacuum cleaner. But instead of applying it to the air intake, run it lightly over the other side of the laptop, around the keyboard. Extreme care is necessary to prevent keys from getting pulled out by the suction from the vacuum cleaner. But it will dislodge any larger debris, and may facilitate the cleaning process through the air intake on the underside, into the cooling fan.

comment How can I copy nytimes.com slideshow images to the clipboard?
@glenviewjeff Are you CERTAIN that this is fair use? I am not sure what 'fair use copyright guidelines' mean, but I just noticed that the image of the chicken dish had a photographer's name beside it, and noticed the following link nytimes.com/content/help/rights/copyright/copyright-notice.html which I am not qualified to interpret as easily or not falling within fair use guidelines. It also depends on what you intend to do with the image once you obtain it. If you don't intend to post it anywhere, then all is well.

This is exactly what I do. Feels like it lacks finesse, but it works and is fast and straightforward. Nice image choice too: (original) Georgian Chicken with Tamarind for the holidays! Yum!

comment How to find polarity of a power supply that's lacking the customary markings
I know that was a long time ago, but do you happen to remember where you got that voltage probe? I was reading your answer out loud to my friend (I liked the part about watching the LED flash red and green) and he said he wished he had a voltage probe like you described. Thanks, if you happen to see this!

comment What is polarity for an unmarked USB hub?
Yay! It worked, polarity was positive on the center pin. I checked with a volt meter. And then I found a diagram online. I saw it before but didn't realize that if I hovered over it, the voltage would pop up. But it didn't tell me what the polarity was, I needed you for that @jdh Thanks again!

comment What is polarity for an unmarked USB hub?
Thanks jdh, that makes sense to use a volt meter to check, given lack of other information. I found the model number, it is a Macally Trihub 7 (or Trihub7). I checked online, found descriptions, but couldn't find documentation. Well, not any that had specifications like a real user's manual would. Might you know anything about Macally?

comment Can one take a partial screen shot in Windows 7?
Up vote! I love the Snipping Tool, use it all the time for easy partial screen shots.

comment Google Chrome crashes when I type in a URL with something already in the bar
@Fogest That is really strange! Why doesn't this happen to other Chrome browser users, I wonder? I mean, lots of us have tons of YouTube video history. Although I've noticed that YouTube seems to save everything in history! I often clear mine out just because I can't find stuff. But I still wonder what caused 300MB to build up for you...?

comment Getting to Windows 7 shutdown menu with the keyboard
I found something similar. You It is a direct way of reverting back to the Classic Start Menu. But I haven't tested it. Here's my blog post that links to it (the original was written in German, in 2009) sites.google.com/site/dataanxiety/blog/…

comment Why are we still using CPUs instead of GPUs?
There are some recent answers @ell now, which do not contain "misinformation". They are gradually rising to the top with up votes due to efficient market mechanism of the wonderfully designed StackExchange ;-) I'd suggest waiting a little longer before accepting an answer. Looks like you very prudently are doing just that. This is a good question, by the way. Might seem obvious, but it isn't at all. Thank you for asking it!
