Or.... transfer the energy in the heat to some other form of energy. That said, there isn't going to be enough to exchange it to electricity (and if there was, I don't think he'd want to be there...). :-)

I'd already considered it, but I just know it would be 5am I discover a problem (shift for any preselected time). I even considered 5 minutes every hour, but that would drive me nuts when I'm at home (and if I could disable it, Murphy's Law will dictate that I forget to enable it)! +1 because it isn't so stupid!

Old hand at low-level software development, so coding isn't a problem at all. I haven't dug into the modem too much as it is newish (three crashes in the last 8 weeks, fortunately my wife was at home and could toggle the power for me). The modem itself only has stats on its web-server, no options. It's new and I don't have any docs yet.
