Mind giving the output of running sudo fdisk -l from the live CD?

hmm; I looked up Error 17, and one blogger says that it might be a messed up device order. How that happens I don't know, but I have seen it before. You can perhaps try the advice here: stringofthoughts.wordpress.com/2009/05/24/… . Only the part about fixing the drive order that is; for GRUB still follow the advice above, if it turns out that was indeed the problem.

Sorry, I'm used to chrooting into the partition first, which is a bit more than you probably want to do. I updated and corrected my answer on the assumption you aren't going to do that.

If that means that you've answered your own question, you might as well select yours as the correct one so people know that it has been solved.

Good point; I assumed from the question that he had already installed it, but on reflection, that's not obvious.

Just to make sure, you installed the correct version for your architecture, right? If you have 64-bit Windows, you must use 64-bit TortoiseSVN for the shell extensions to work. The other thing you might try is see if Checkout is in the File menu in Explorer. Also, note that you must use Windows Explorer (the file manager), not Internet Explorer (the browser).

Thanks for the note! I'm not too familiar with Google Code either, so that's good to know.

To be safe, you should probably quote all variables; e.g.: "$i"
