comment Educate me - should I buy these prebuilt NAS (which is better) or make my own?
@Moab: I know that. But if you make your own NAS you generally don't use Dlink/Drobo/etc. Hence no web GUI. My point is, if you want a nice Web GUI you can't build a NAS system yourself, you have to buy one.

You may want to update your X11 application.

comment Help with my network setting/connection. I need to connect my Laptop to my Desktop
Try making a folder on one of your computers "shared" and then find the name of your computer. You can then usually map to it by putting the address, i.e. \\MY-PC-NAME\PATH-TO-FOLDER-ON-DISK

comment Can gedit on mac be used to edit files over ssh?
Depending on your version of OS X you may need to reinstall X11. I had to on Leopard.

comment Should I include my OS partition on my RAID or separate hard drive?
I don't really have a great answer for this. This has to do with ease of rebuilding the array if there happens to be a failure, or if you want to migrate the array. Another possibility might be to have the OS mirrored (using RAID 1) and use the rest of the disks for RAID 5. That way both your data and OS are protected against 1 disk failure, each.

comment MacBook Pro can ping to hosts but not browse via WiFi
In the OP post it says tried "Changing browsers" and can connect using "another (Windows) laptop" It's doubtful that this is a router or browser problem.

comment Comp turn on but doesnt beep and I get nothing on the monitor
It sounds as if your computer won't POST. It usually means that some cable or component is not connected (to the motherboard) properly.

comment SMB Share Will Not Unmount (OS X)
Well, you can try using the options -f or -l (so: unmount -f) ... other than that I'm stumped. Hope you solve it =/

comment SMB Share Will Not Unmount (OS X)
Hmm, OK. So you did try doing sudo diskutil unmount /Users/<yourUserName>/Desktop/home, and it still did not work, correct?

comment SMB Share Will Not Unmount (OS X)
If they're not mounted why would you want to unmount them? Do you mean the folders are still there? Why not just delete them by moving them to the trash?
