Software Developer @ jp2code.net

Long ago, I left home and joined the United States Marine Corps where I was assigned the Military Occupational Specialty of Basic Metal Worker (MOS 1316). I loved building things as a welder, but could not see myself doing this until I reached age 65.

After my Honorable Discharge in the early 1990s, I used my G.I. Bill to go to school and received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics four years later.

Using a love of computers since I played on a Commodore 64 at 10 years old and two (2) C++ electives that I had taken in school, I began working in the computer programming field.

The recession following ENRON in 2001 left me working at a remedial job for a little over two years while I brushed up on my skills at a local community college in SQL and first learned what the new .NET Framework was all about.

I have had the pleasure of working as a Software Developer since 2003.

For a short while, I pulled in a little extra income by running a moonlighting business under the name Joe's Welding. Dangerous working conditions and non-paying customers prompted me to sell my mobile welding equipment about the time my son was born.

Today, I am exclusively a Software Developer. My language of choice is C#, and I enjoy working with databases.

If you care to find me anywhere else, just do a search on my screen name: jp2code

I have Deluge set as a Task on my Win7 PC. How would I go about setting it as a Service? What exactly is the difference, since it is the same program?

Thanks! I tried being as descriptive as possible, including numerous pics, hoping others would see this post and be able to do the same. There was nothing on how to do this online.

Not 100% sure if what you said is what I did, but it looks close. I updated my answer with what I did to get this resolved for me.

comment Cannot connect to IIS 7 from localhost
Dave, I have the exact same situation as Wout. I did what you just suggested, and it shows This page can't be displayed. I was actually told to list my problem on ServerFault, so it is here: Cannot Get Ported Over Website to New Win2008 Server to Launch with screenshot.

(Note that I'm a programmer, not a network administrator, so I'm having a hard time trouble shooting this.) +1 for that! Me, too!

comment New Server and New IIS
I now have a fresh instance of IIS running. Would you know of a good spot to go to see how to configure 2 or more folders to serve as separate websites, and how to setup the Application Pools? I did those one time a little over a year ago, but someone worked with me here at that time and walked me through it. I didn't take notes. :(

OK, I see it. It's further down the page. This should get me all fixed up (I hope).

The one I would naturally assume, Web Server (IIS) is already checked and grayed out because it is already installed.

+1. So far, I'm looking at that link on installing IIS. It says to use the Add Roles wizard, then talks about using the Web PI. I'm not sure what role to add.

comment Windows 7 Media Player and Codecs
Update: I have been running the Haali Media Splitter only now for over two (2) years. There are very few files that it consistently will not play in Windows 7 Media Center (less than 1 in 1000), and these could be due to corrupt headers in the downloads. So, in my opinion, this HAL media splitter is all anyone really needs.

Got it. This is just to help me do some local file manipulation, so I promise not to use the Ampersand (&).

To prevent down time as much as possible, is there a way to get the HDD size on the Media PC without tearing it open first?

I went right over to try that. Unfortunately, Windows wanted me to select the NTFS file system to recover, and it did not show any in the list. Crap.

comment How to get Windows data from hard drive tinkered with by Linux?
This is a large 500 GB drive. Is there some way to say, "Take the Linux note off and put it back to NTFS?" The Linux program never formatted anything. It did all of its damage in about 15 seconds.

Thanks, Dave. I had to wait until a time when the family wasn't watching TV, but I think I got it! :) After granting Read/Execute, I had to DENY the ability to Delete.
