comment How can I set up a wired printer on different operating systems without a print server?
@MacGyver Few things: 1) Canon may make some Linux drivers, but they're not known for broad support. 2) A screenshot in an obscure tutorial that isn't even about Canon printers on Linux does not stellar support imply. The S330 is over a decade old and you can't even find Windows drivers on Canon's site for that model much less Linux ones. Perhaps it's some sketchy driver from OpenPrinting. My evidence of Canon's terrible Linux support still stands unchallenged.

@MacGyver A print server isn't going to prevent the need for Linux drivers. It just puts the printer on the network using a dedicated, often very inexpensive appliance without the need for a traditional "server."

@MacGyver I'm partial to Brother. Solid products, good Linux support.

@MacGyver Worst case scenario. Canon has terrible support for Linux - casts contemptuous glance at his Canon MFP

Your question is better suited for SuperUser. If four other people (or one mod) agrees with me, it will be moved there for you. No need to do anything.

My initial thought is that you should report this as a bug to Adobe.

This ended up being the culprit. I didn't narrow down the ultimate cause though.

This was apparently not the problem. It was a user profile issue.

Update. I did all of this and it didn't solve the problem.

Thanks kmote! I'll take a look at it the next time I'm with the client.

I've awarded the bounty to this answer as it seems like the most logical way to proceed. Other answers seem to be a little more obscure. Sadly, my client has not responded to my repeated attempts at scheduling time with him. I cannot be sure if this is the answer, and yet the bounty period will run out before I can meet with him. I will accept the correct answer and consider making a second bounty if the accepted answer is different from this one.

P.S. The user does not use a high contrast theme.

Would this be in effect for all applications or just word? Remember, Wordpad can color text successfully.

@user377178 IT is seen in all document view layouts that I know of. I'll check the printer next time I'm at the client.

@zackrspv Yes, I can add color to words in Wordpad?

@ChrisS Since this also affects Excel, do you think it might be better to go up a branch and rename 14.0?

@soandos I don't believe so, since I just reinstalled Office Professional from the disc and didn't perform any additional operations except to install the latest Office updates.
