comment What are some things to avoid if you want to keep your computer adware/spyware free?
Steady state is the way to go in my opinion. It's simple to set up and easy enough to disable if you want to make permanent changes. Kiddies turd up the machine, reboot and it is back to pristine.

comment Wifi signal booster
You may be able to boost the signal in the properties for the card/driver. Most the time they are set to 100 percent at the factory any way. The OS is only involved with the card at the higher levels. Anything having to do with the radio signal is going to be handled by firmware.

comment Is it better to dual-boot or run a VM?
Wouldn't running Linux in VM as opposed to naively take away one of the main benefits of Linux? You'd still have the system resources of Vista (even if stripped) pulling on the machine then, running the linux vm on top. I guess it depends on what your main concern is when using Linux. Also I don't know the answer to this but has anybody tried using WINE to run Windows games in Linux? I wouldn't imagine it would work but I could be wrong.

comment Lightweight virus scan for win XP
Nod32 may have a small footprint but I find it's protection to be lacking. I see systems running Nod32 come in often with malware. Now to be fair, I see systems come in with malware and just about every AV product out there. Just like most other AV products Nod32 doesn't do a great job of removing threats that are in the system already. For that I would say Malwarebytes or Avast's boot time scan.

comment upgrade from xp to windows 7
Yeah, upgrade plus upgrade would equal a very messy install. I'm not a big fan of upgrades in the first place but I think you would be better suited by going straight to 7. Plus if you have to reload your system often like I do, my wife and 2 year old can be hard on a computer, then do you want to have to load 3 operating systems or 2?

I agree, it sounds more like a bad lcd or loose connection then an inverter to me.

comment Any free tool to change color of an image
I think that GIMP is an excellent solution. Yes, it looks daunting but just check out youtube for some great tutorials and you'll be adjusting the colors of your photos (and more I bet) in no time.
